Need advise on a new Television.
on: June 11, 2014, 04:02:54 PM
Our bedroom TV just went up and we'd like to replace it. I haven't kept up with the latest brands, etc and need your advise on what to get.

I'd like to get the most bang for my buck for under $300 and my only requirement is 1024x resolution.

TIA

this is under $300, but it is 720p  (Higher than the 1024 you mention)

http://www.walmart.com/ip/VIZIO-E320i-B2-32-720p-60Hz-Full-Array-LED-Smart-HDTV/33054746

here is the breakdown on screen sizes

but for about $328 (plus tax) you can get a 1080p resolution.

Vizio TVs are cheaper, but they seem to last as long as other brands,  I have 3 of them and I have no complaints for the price.  Vizio is the WAVE and some of the others are the CHARGE TTi.
If I can help, let me know

you should go check out what Walmart has in person,  my personal advice is do not get plasma,  and if possible get LED instead of LCD.  LED is better and uses less electricity.  I love my VIZIO in the basement, it is 26" LED 1080p I bought 6 years ago, and it has never let me down.

if you can get 1080p I recommend it, but I do understand budget restraints.
If I can help, let me know

1080p is what my living room Tv is and that's a definite requirement. I will give Walmart a shot :tu:

I thought that might have been what you meant in your OP, but 1024 is an actual resolution, so I was not sure.  but yes, slightly over $300 will get a 1080p for sure, in store sales might actually provide a cheaper find than online, I have discovered that many times with Walmart.

happy hunting, and good luck

here is some important info
http://www.avforums.com/threads/list-of-lcd-panel-manufactures-the-panel-behind-the-brand.815307/

•   LG Display: TN, IPS, S-IPS, SA-IPS, H-IPS --- Samsung, LGE, Philips, Vizo, Panasonic, Toshiba, Hitachi, AmTRAN and Skyworth

what this means is that LG Display makes panels for Vizio, LG, Samsung, etc, etc.

My idiot's way of buying electronics, find what's in Costco and buy the one that's on sale.  :D

Not going to be the best price ever, but most of the time pretty good and saves months of getting up to date then monitor prices from stores.

And don't buy a smart TV, price isn't worth is and some brand like Samsung is extremely invasive of your privacy.

I completely forgot about Sam's (Costco equivalent). I'll have to take a look at them also. Thanks for the tip :tu:

If it's not a big/main TV, then I agree.  For a home theatre, you can not beat plasma.  Yes, they consume WAY more power than either LED or LCD, but the picture quality more then makes up for it.  I have a 50" LG 50PK750, and have had it for 4 years, and still, no LED or LCD TV out today comes close to the picture quality of it (IMHO).

agreed, but with his price range and expected smaller size, I could not imaging looking at plasma.  the one you got is a great one!  but out of his price range on this purchase

I wasn't sure if you were anti-plasma or not :D   But yes, for a small lower cost TV, plasma really isn't an option.  LED and LCD TV's have come down in price so much, you can get a cheaper 40-50" for $3-400.  Vizio seems to make a good TV for the price though.   :tu:

the RIGHT plasma is OK, but some of the older ones are completely horrible.  the one you got I would be more than happy with.
