Leatherman for Kids ?
on: May 12, 2014, 05:19:16 PM
I couldn't find a topic about this here, but there's an article I accidentally stumbled upon online. I remember someone asking for suggestions here, on Mto

http://toolguyd.com/leatherman-multi-tools-2014-leap-juice/

Does it exist yet?

I think it was previewed at SHOT show.

If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

Yeah, I'm gonna have a look at the video after work :D

So, have they been released yet? Does anyone have one yet?

We had a few parallel threads on it once it came out during the SHOT SHOW and I started a thread oce it got patented about a year ago. Don't think they are out yet though.

I'll add a link once I find it.

Meanwhile, here are a couple of pics by Multimat of the LEAP next to the Surge for size reference.

He'll probably have to spend months explaining to everyone that it's not a knife.

But when you install the blade, it seems it's gonna be a cool funky tool for adults, too  :D :D Comes in some nice colours.... The only thing that kinda makes me not like it very much is the weirdly shaped handles.. that tapered form.

I hate to be negative, but I doubt it.

I seriously hope I am wrong about how much I expect to hate the Leap. I have a feeling that the saw is going to be terrible as it appears they changed the tooth design to make it "safer" for young children which in turn makes it harder to cut things. I also think the short length of the saw coupled with its "safer" tooth design will make cutting anything with it less effective than it should be. I am also very interested to see how sharp the blade comes. We all know a sharp blade is actually safer to use as your not using excessive force to cut things which is how most accidents happen. If the blade comes less sharp than any of there other models I would be pretty concerned about that. I really, really hope i'm wrong about all this though.

I just watched the video. Did I hear him say the tool will ship without a knife blade? Sounds like a good way to increase revenue on a product to me.

I took it as they are going to ship it with the blade not installed, but you will get one with the tool. This is just how I interpreted it. If they charge extra for the blade that's just mean. Think about the children.  :D

Yes, I also think they ship it WITH the blade, but it will not be installed, so you can put it aside and install it yourself when the kids are ready for it. But once installed, it cannot ever be removed. The installation seemed very easy, so... how can it not ever be removed again is beyond me... But I'm just dumb:D

+1 on being dumb... LOL

Yup as far as I understood also it will come WITH blade separate which can be installed additionally, though as stated no words on removing it...

Got it. Had to watch the video again and agree, the blade comes with it...just not installed.

I think this is going to play havoc with collectors. I see 3 colours, and 3 possible variations on top of that.

I think I will get all the colours and leave the blade in their separate holders.

No, you get all three colours twice and have them both three colours with and without blades :D  :pok:
