I just bought a Thrunite Saber http://www.thrunite.com/thrunite-saber-2014/ to give my father for Father's Day. Of course I had to check it out first to see if it works. Very bright, 3 modes, and it operates on a single AA or CR123. Good reviews on YouTube also. I ordered mine through Amazon.

I'm second on DQG spy, but you might find it's a bit tricky to get a charger.

The Nano is a cool little light. I have an Orange one as the zipper pull on my bike jacket.

If you get a Nano light watch out for loose threads - if they are loose the head will work its way off and send the (very small) batteries into hard to reach places. A small strip of plumbers tape seems to tighten up the threads and stop that happening  :tu:

The Nano is nice but only 10 lumens. I like the K2 because it's around 25.

I think the K2 is to fragile for me to keychain carry.

the D2 is probably the way I am going to go

I've had my Nano on my keys for several months with no issues.  I did put plumbers tape on the threads as a precaution.   I debated between the nano and the energizer, nano won for no specific reason.   These little guys for me serve specific purposes so spending anything over $10 was out.  I also have a photon that I very much like, it has an adjustable brightness setting as well as a few modes.

Not sure how water proof the nano however their website says weatherproof.  I've seen the Energizer sit in a glass of water for 30 mins without issue (online vid).  Website say 12 hour run time on the energizer and 8 hour on the Nano which is pretty good IMO.

Another option in a small, bright, bulletproof keychain light would be a Peak Eiger 10250 in stainless.

I've been carrying a 47's MLR2 Mini on my keys for months now and it's an awesome little light. Takes a CR2 battery which I managed to find at a decent price on battery junction. Now for the bad part; it costs as much as a D2 so you might as well go with that.  :salute:

Or maybe the Spotlight SPECK.

About 10 lumens, same as the Nano or any 5mm LED.

I like Steve's suggestion about the 47s MLR2 Mini. I love mine. :tu: Maybe if they decide to dump old stock again. I got mine for $18 shipped last Christmas. Now they are back to $40.

I know you said smaller than AAA but the Preon P0 $21 is a great little light I have.  Its good looking and being all flood it's pretty useful to me.  The light is just about AAA size and has a max brightness of 25lm and moonlight .24lm which I really like.

Thrunite Ti2 is also a AAA light at about $11 with 3lm and 81lm.  I've seen them for $8 at times.  Again I know you said smaller than AAA but these are very slender and just about the size of a AAA.

I own a Thrunite Ti firefly.

I'm going to put it back on my keys with a Vic rambler until I can afford a spy or D2

please keep the suggestions coming. I'm not 100% sure what I want yet.

I have an Olight that I recently put on my keys.  I believe it is about 80 lumens and only costs about $20. Oh and it is orange/copper color too! :)

I've had a photon freedom on my key ring for probably about 6 or 7 years now- I love it.

Don't get a Maglite Solitaire. Since my Fenix E05 died (I'd get another, very good) I've been carrying the LED Solitaire. It hasn't stood up to being pocket carried at all well, it's got dings and scrapes all over and really looks like it's been through the wars over the past couple of months. The end also falls off on a regular basis (usually 3-4 times a week, twice today) meaning the battery falls out and it disappears from my key ring.

In fairness if you want a small, elegant, unregulated thrower it's good.
I want a small, rugged, regulated flood and it's not that.
