Aww man, that's what I like about them and Drew Remenda doesn't give a smurf about any of the higher ups. If he sees something he doesn't like he puts it out there. I love when he calls out the refs for bad calls.

I hate the machine like boring announcers. I like a little history and laughs with my game. Telling stories and stats are A+ in my book as long as you announce the game simultaneously, which they do.  :twak: Shame on you.  :twak:  :D

We may never agree on this one. You watch basketball though so I can't expect much from you.  :P

I watched b-ball when Jordan "WAS" playing but no more :P

now I'm trying out soccer, I can't wait for the Germany Game :D

Same here. I used to watch Jordan, but quit watching soon after his retirement.

Don't get me wrong about soccer. I appreciate the players as athletes and soccer is the most watched sport in the world, but it's just not for me. They have enough fans anyways. They don't need me.  :D
I'm the milk man!

Why it's called Soccer

I don't like that word. It sounds like "Sucker".

I should have posted this link too in my original answer:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxford_%22-er%22

Basically, soccer is a slang word coined by rugby playing students. The wanted to et apart the 'footer' games 'rugger' and 'soccer'.
Are we looking at the archetype of the 'Valley Girl' here?

Ah, this. That happens all the time :D

I didn't know that! I'm glad  ;) another level of the game to watch for like a secret weapon :D

Yeah, lots, but there are a few players that are/were masters of those.

One of my personal favorites is Roberto Carlos from Brazil. What that guy could do with a ball. :dd:

Football is very exciting when there are a couple of great players in the court,  like KH Rumeninge, Kruyff, Maradona, Pele,  Platini, Zidane, Blahin, Boniek, Rivaldo, Zajec, Panenka, Best, Puskas, Antonioni etc. Some never met fame in the World Cup because they weren'r supported by other players of high value, such as Hadji and Hadjipanagis. Here's one:

Δημήτρης Σαραβάκος - ABSOLUTELY THE BEST:

Dimitris Saravakos

Barely, but at least the Dutchies scored twice in the last 20 mins. "We" (I hate that phrasing  :-X ) won!

What the heck happened to the US? They seemed to have it locked up with a little bit to go and then they had to give up the tying goal.

Croatia was unlucky to play in a very difficult group Enki. Brazil was out of the question so there was just one slot available. This made this match a kind of knock out. Still you lasted longer than Spain and England.

Italy and England out! Costa Rica and Uruguay to the 16! That's a major and double surprise.
Italy won a World Cup after Zidane was sent off for headbutting the provocative Marco Materazzi in 2006. Now Italy is out receiving a goal after an unpunished headbutt and bite (!!!) from Suarez. That's the UGLY face of football.
Let's see if Greeks will justify their presence there.

The bite was a disgrace, and knowing this wasn't the first time Suarez bit somebody, Fifa should take its responsibility and kick him out of the World Cup, maybe give him a year or so to think about his biting habit before he can set foot on a football field again ...

Children bite in order to cope with a challenge or fulfill a need.  For example, your child may be biting to express a strong feeling (like frustration), communicate a need for personal space (maybe another child is standing too close) or to satisfy a need for oral stimulation.  Trying your best to understand the underlying cause of the biting will help you develop an effective response.  This makes it more likely that you will be successful in eliminating the behavior.

They deserved it. They were better. 3 shots on the goalposts, it would be a pitty to end to a tie. Let's see the Costs Rica now.

I missed the bite in the Italy-Uruguay game, but did see the goal.  Colombia ran right over Japan, didn't they?  :o  That was a bit brutal to watch......

Hey everyone, I just figured I'd join the conversation here- I don't have too many friends that follow football (soccer) at all... Though to be fair, I only really follow it for a few months every four years. :P

I root for Brasil- I spent my childhood there, as did my dad, so it's been a lifelong thing. My first sports-event memory is watching Maradona & team-mate score on a break-away late in a game against Brasil, knocking us out of the 1990 World Cup. My dad says I cried, but I don't remember that part. :D

Any more knowledgeable fans have any idea if Suarez will be out? If we (Brasil....) beat Chile, we might see them in the next round, and I'm hoping for any breaks we can get. I haven't been impressed with our playing so far. :-\

I think it's amusing that Portugal still think they have a chance...

The portuguese team always plays with the calculator: if we tie and A looses by 5+ goals with B, we still have a chance!

I was hoping the worldcup would be over after the game vs. USA, but they had to blew it! I don't understand all the crazyness about soccer (or any other sport). People get hysterical over that and don't do nothing about stuff that really matters, like work, politics, education. If just 1% of the energy devoted to soccer was devoted to more relevant causes, what a wonderful world it would be...
