I think the ref is afraid that if he pulls a yellow he will get shot  :D

But refs have been very poor when sanctioning fouls in general.

Yeah, the ref has had no influence on the outcome (which is a good thing). I just can't believe quite how bad Brazil have been tonight, I mean Germany have played really well but have they needed to get out of third gear?

I bet the Argentine and Netherlands players are watching this game with interest!

And 7:1, while it could have been 8:0.

7 to 1!  :woohoo:
A game to remember.

And as I see it, this could have become a nasty game, but both teams acted very fair.
I just hope the emotions of the brazilian fans will not lead to something stupid this night.

It was a psychological thing. And their captain who could inspire the defense was absent. This wouldn't happen against Argentina or Holland who had nothing to loose and no such pressure.
You can't tell the final score by the statistics. Most German offensives resulted to goals or almost goals.

As mentioned - i´m no soccer fan. So i was in my homecinema, looking "the shadow cabal" (a fantasy movie).

When i left the room after the movie, my wife (who had looked the game) told me on TV was a fantasy movie, too, one with football.
Have fun.

Bye,
Michael

Absolutely. From my thinking, the minutes 23' to 29' made the game. The first goal did not really change the playing style. But then after the 2:0 Brasil lost focus and Germany was there to capitalize on it.
Though the Brasilians had those headless minutes without a proper defence they managed to strengthen their defence in the last 15 min of the first half. Kudos!  :salute:

The second half saw more acceptable, but not tight defence (on both sides), but I don't think the Brazilians thought about winning this game after the break.
A really exceptionel match!

Well, certainly not what I expected to see. One German player was mentioned going for a hat trick!  That can't be too common in soccer, can it?

This sentence seemed off to me. I googled and discovered:
The english word(s) "hat trick" are translated into german as "Hattrick".
Weren't we talking about spaces a while back?

And yes, 3  goals in one match by one player is very uncommon (and often the other players' attribution towards the goal are overlooked).

:D

Hat tricks are not common, especially not on World cup games, but they do happen a few times a year in every league. Now 4 goals in one match, that's rare. >:D Don't even know if it has a special name, but I do remember some players that did it. The Russian Andrey Arshavin in a Premiership match against Liverpool while playing for Arsenal (ended 4:4) and Croatian Dado Pršo in a European Champions League match against Deportivo playing for Monaco (ended 8-3, was played on his birthday) that I still remember fondly. :D

And Messi once even scored 5 if I remember correctly against Bayer L.

As a Colonist, I have always been ambivalent about soccer/football/futbol, even to the point of actively disliking it.  I mean, who would want to watch a 90 minute game where the final score is 1-0? Where is the entertainment in that? But after watching a few games, and particularly this 7-1 Brazilian debacle, its pretty good.  I could see myself getting into it, but we just don't see much soccer on television, much less world class competition.  I think that a lot of the American ambivalence with soccer is that we have so many fast-paced, action oriented entertainment options from MMA to the NBA or NFL, and many people don't want to see a couple of teams kicking a ball for an hour with no scoring.  But there is a lot more to it than just the final score.

In 2001 Archie Thompson scored 13 (sic) goals in the Australia-American Samoa 31-0 (sic) for the World Cup 2002 qualification game. In the same game Dvid Zdrilic scored 8. Australia beated also Tonga 22-0 with John Aloisi scoring 6 for the same tournament.

Well what do you expect? Wrong type of football for Samoans.  They're more defensive linemen and centers..... ;)

that's what i've been saying all along. a 6'1 320lbs samoan can anchor a 3-4 defensive front all day long

Was a terrible defeat yesterday for us, a massacre, but I´m so impressed how polite the German players were at the end of the game. They celebrated, but respectfully, very nice of them. Good point is that I hope with this the Brazilian Executies that organize our internal competitions and the country team think better on how to organize the football better, as Germany did after the World Cup in 2006. Congratulations to all Germans, was a football class.  :hatsoff:

Since the beginning we knew that we weren´t the best team, but there was always hope....that lasted until yesterday.

Buuuuuut......we still have 5 cups.... :D  :drink:

So now is cheer for a european final Germany and Netherland.  :D

Let's see what Argentina has to say. Always dangerous and capable for everything.
I love their outfit by the way. The first game I saw in color was the 1978 final, Argentina vs Holland and was very impressed by the Orange and White/Light Blue jerseys of the two teams (and the white paper pieces on the field). Silly but I was a kid then and these two uniforms made their imprint in my brain.
I like both teams but, as I said many times, Holland deserves a World Cup someday, maybe this Sunday.

All very tight and cagey so far. At this stage of the match last night, five goals had already been scored*

A dutch and a german meet at the shop, the german asks:

"Against whom do you play next?"

"Against Argentine" the dutch answers.

"Funny, we too. Next sunday."

 I´ve send that via Whatsapp to a dutch friend, last night.  :D
Have fun.

Bye,

Very bad game. None of the teams showed anything today, Netherlands nothing, Argentina even less. :-\

I have a feeling we might see another massacre on Sunday.
