I've just broken my JUICE S2 ?! ?! ?!
on: June 14, 2014, 01:39:58 PM
What the smurf, I don't even know what happened **crazy**

I was in a hurry and tried to close all three flathead drivers at ONCE and two long pieces of metal popped out of the tool  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh Or maybe it is one LONG piece of metal that broke into two ?! ?!

I can't yet figure out where it came from, WTF.

Oh, I figured it - that back thing that keeps the flat head locked. WTF. I'll post a picture in a while.

Backspring snapped.

Nothing to do with closing all the screwdrivers though. You did nothing wrong.

Are you on better terms with your LM dealer than the last time you had to use the LM warranty? ;)

The broken pieces

Now I have a funky driver

I'm good with the dealer this time, but the thing is, he's not really a dealer, just an ordinary guy who orders this and that from somewhere if someone asks for it. I guess I'll directly write to LM .................................................. smurf

I had one of those break on my CS4. Shipped it off to the local LM representative/dealer and had a new CS4 back in 3 days.

Yeah, thanks...

I've contacted both LM and the guy from whom I ordered. We'll see. Just, again, it's ME who has to pay the shipping, which sucks having in mind the not-so-low-prices of the tools anyway. Also, if they exchange it, I get no proper tool, but the new idiotic version of it.

And I'm starting to be a bit disappointed in LM, I guess. Two BRAND new Juices, one breaks spring, the scissors of the other is so smurfin loose. I guess I'd be better off buying second-hand from eBay, this way I'll at least blame myself later and it will be my responsibility.

I've had that with my Camilus Demo knife but never with a Swiss knife. Does that mean that the steel used isn't proper or it is a matter of QC? :-(

Iiii don't knowww what the problem is, but it's so freaking annoying. I've been pampering both of my tools more so as not to scratch them or wear the coating out as they're just beautiful. However, what goes wrong? Something on the inside. I haven't even used them a lot, just carried. One of the knives cut an apple, the other one opened a package, that's it. The pliers haven't been used, the drivers haven't been used a single time. Wtf. I won't get over it soon, so sorry if I'm annoying....  :bnghd:

You aren't annoying, you are justifiably angry. A back spring shouldn't do this, but they can.

Hopefully LM can expidite a replacement. Although, this is why I like the classic, box framed style of LM because there is no backspring to break.

Oh NNR I'm so irritated for you.  LEATHERMAN hurry and get her a new tool NOW!   This is interesting though, I can only imagine the heat treating would be bad .  Tools are not supposed to be breaking under regular use not to mention when simply closing the tool up or even opening it.

I sure hope this gets sorted as quickly as possible.

Ya thats annoying.  Could be variability in the heat treat for sure, or irregularities in the metal.  There is alot of variability and chance for problems in the process.  Not every spring gets checked either, for hardness etc.  The first time I had springs made they checked every 5th one on the line for hardness to get a generally idea.  Im sure LM do something similar.

I know Victorinox has had alot of experience over the years in making good springs and the ones they make now are awesome.  They are snap proof, you can actually bend them 90 degress and they wont snap, deform heavilly, but dont snap.  The older ones they made would snap no problem though.

Thanks for the support guys :) It's enough you stand me whining lol.

I'm even wondering if to send it in... It's just the flathead that is ruined, but I don't use drivers almost at all. Maybe I should wait for something else to break and do it then........or.. who knows. I'll see once I get replies from the guys.

I haven't even dropped these tools which happened a lot to my key chain ones.

I asked in my email if, in case they agreed for me to send it in, if they could repair it, not send me from the new versions... siiiigh.

So.... I haven't received an official reply from LM yet. The guy from whom I bought it, though, contacted the dealer HE bought it from... and the dealer, of course, had told him to contact Leatherman directly.......

So I'm waiting for Leatherman. And I'm wondering if to send it in or not. Yeah, they may have some old ones left in stock, but I doubt it- why would they remove them from their site completely. It's just one of the drivers that doesn't work anymore and I don't even use hte drivers. Maybe I could keep using the tool until something else breaks (for some reason I think it will) and send it only then.. when it will be inevitable that I get from the new ones.

I believe usually, you can best contact your local Leatherman distributor, if I understand the website correctly one of these:

    @bmot, thanks :)

Two years ago I had a broken PS4 and did contact those. One of them doesn't exist, the other one, located in Sofia, was really unpleasant to deal with, rude and arrogant, so I had to contact LM USA directly. I'm not going to go through the BG distributor again. I'll be waiting for LM USA to reply my e-mail.

More reason why we need a Heritage line (think Micra, Rebar, Supertool) size "pocket" multi tool from LM.  Four ounces of simple perfection - less is more.   I'm sure LM has this on the drawing board.

If you get ahold of another juice with the right backspring I believe you acn slide in a new spring into your pro without taking it apart.

the two of you might want to contact Metro - Not only did he show a way to replace the springs without braking tehm or hurtuing yourself (In his Slim Jim thread, I believe?), I also think i remember him mentioning buying a lot Juices to tear them down for mods - He might be able to help out with springs.

NNR, i know that if you were to send it directly to them, they would replace it. If they're out of refurbished tools, they'd send you a new one. Thing is, I don't know how cost-effective that is for you from your nation. With the postage and fees, perhaps you MAY be better off buy another used one. ?

Yep it was him that came up with that method for inserting the springs.  I havent actually tried it, but mentally bookmarked that trick since I do have a juice mod I started long ago to finish.

Thanks for that. Indeed, I've been thinking about exactly the same. A used one will again be a little more expensive than the shipping cost (MAYBE), but at least I'll have another one in my hands. The shipping s***, indeed. Even more so if on the way back it ends up in customs. So, yes, I'm wondering if to send it at all, if they reply at all. But one thing I know for sure- I'm never again going to buy a brand new tool. I've spent like the minimal salary in my country on two brand new Juices and both of them turned out crappy-ish....
