Leatherman Scale Off
on: June 08, 2014, 05:19:30 PM
I tool many of the most popular Leatherman tools and show them side by side and scaled them to show you guys what the size and weight diffrences are between these bad boys.  it's hard to see from pictures, and specs how big and bulky or small and compact a tool is until you get them side by side.

On hand I had the Old Surge, New Surge, Charge, Wave, Skeletool, Juice S2, Super Tool 300 and SwissTool X

I hope this is helpful for some of you guys

That's interesting how the Charge weighs less than the Wave. I wonder if this is true for the new Charge with different scales  ???

I'm sure it probably is,  part of the weight savings could be from the serrated blade in this model because it has material removed from it to form a fishhook.

I'm not sure if the new one has that feature.  I honestly thought the charge would weight just a tad more than the wave.

I've weighed some of my MTs on our fancy, expensive postage machine at work.  In most cases, I got a different weight than what LM says on their site.  The new scaled TTi I have weighs 8.8oz as did the Original SuperTool I got.  The Charge AL I just swapped out the TTi with weighs in at 8.6oz.  The New Wave I used to have weighed 8.5oz I believe.  I think the old scaled TTi I had weighed 8.4oz, so I was surprised by how much more the new scaled version weighs.

The Charge I scale in this video is an older one,  I'm surprised that the new ones weight that much more.  I wonder what they changed to add so much weight?  hope they don't keep adding weight to it.  The Leatherman wave & charge tools are already really dense for their size.

I'm not sure that anything changed other than the new scales.  I think there is less of a cutout for the two blades, and I think they are slightly thicker as well.  At least the entire tool appears slightly thicker, and I assume that's due to the new scales as I don't think any of the tools are any different.  They are somewhat dense, and heavy for carry.  I manage with the pocket clip, but the Charges are the heaviest multitools I have for the size.  I mean my Original Supertool weighs the same as my new scaled TTi did.
