Help please regarding positioning of Vic scissors
on: June 24, 2014, 06:01:32 AM
Hey Guys,

I am working on the next version of my tool evolution summary document:
http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,51872.msg881641.html#msg881641

And am chasing something up regarding the scissor position in a Vic SAK.

I have a very old Woodsman (now Huntsman) from the 1940s where the scissor is pivoted at the opposite end to the main blade.
I then have a slightly younger Hunstman and Champion where the scissors are pivoted at the same end.
Then all my later SAKs have the pivot at the opposite end to the main blade.
I attach a couple of piccies.

I was wondering whether the location of the scissors is something to do with the age of the knife?
Eg Scissors pivoted at same end as knife say between 1950 and 1965??
Or whether it is due to the tool configuration - As I read somewhere that if the SAK has the long nail file then the scissors are pivoted at the same end as the main blade - otherwise they are always pivoted at the opposite end.

Thanks for your help guys.  :D

The scissors that pivot on the blade side have the long nail file.

Yupp. You cannot determine the age of a knife by the opening direction of the scissor in relation to the knife. At the same time period knifes with long nail file (LNF) and with out were produced.

There are other things were you can look at. However, the LNF isn't produced anymore. So a knife with LNF is not "new" and pretty rare.

Thanks guys for the responses.

So scissor position is nothing to do with age - Only depends upon whether the LNF is in the knife.
Good stuff makes the data sheet a bit simpler.
