Sharpening my Style CS
on: June 27, 2014, 01:15:04 AM
Today I got out my sharpening kit and sharpened my Style CS blade. It had gotten dull from all the use it gets. Being a chisel ground blade, I found it took me a good couple of dozen swipes on the stone before I could get a decent edge back on it. It was kind of hard to catch the right angle at first.

What are your experiences with the sharpening of chisel ground blades?

I tend to have the most luck with chisel ground blades, because the grind tends to be extra wide so I can find the angle by feel.  My Style CS and Micra blades are my sharpest two, they're just about shave ready.

I do a 5 to 1 ratio on chisel ground blades.

5 strokes on the beveled side one stroke to remove the burr on the back side.

I think its fairly easy to sharpen.

sharpening tip

don't let your knives get very dull. Its way easier to maintain a sharp edge than to make one on a dull knife :)

I only use the stone on the ground side of the blade. I strop both sides evenly.

I found I actually needed that swipe on the edgeless side. I did what Joel suggested and it came out nice and sharp. Thanks buddy :tu:

My CS is still pretty sharp, but I'll have to remember this for when I need to sharpen it.  :tu:
