Excuse my ignorance but is the P-38 a US specific designation?  I bought this little fella from a camp site shop back in the early eighties.  Its a tad over 5cm long.  Looking at the text on it I'm wondering if they were made for British armed forces issue.

Only two kinds are made locally: a non-folding one (which is one of the most retarded de-evolutions I've ever witnessed) and a huge, 7-9 cm iron monster with two cap lifters, that bends from a dirty look. The word "retarded" is somewhat insensitive in this case, as they're actually made by "work therapy" patients. When I think about who's in charge of making Israeli hardware, I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

On the bright side, I got a couple of British P-51s as a freebie on eBay. They're awesome.
