Ok you want me to be helpful ::) :P If its a ball mouse (you can tell by there being a ball on the underside of it) it may just need cleaning, if its an optical one then you are up that famous creek without one of the paddle thingys!

Not to disparage your wise & in depth advice on computer maintenance, but I think the first post was actually closer to being useful.

Interesting Fact:

You can no longer purchase ball mouses or PS/2 type plugs.

To my local compy store I say: smurfs.

Why would anyone actually want a ball mouse... (I still have about 3 spares laying around)

In my experience, most mice these days are USB, but come with a ps/2 adapter... at least the good ones are... also it seems most new PCs have at least 8 USB ports, so it's not really an issue.

It's probably your local compy store being difficult by not stocking older type devices, forcing you to buy a USB device, and if you haven't got enough slots free, a USB hub as well...
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.
