Older Saks came in a velvet mold, held so snug that it was hard to pull it out with your fingers, thick instructions, and a fleece sheet over the tool! The newest Sak I bought only came loose in a much smaller box. Easy to see how these changes can lead to nasty scratches on your Sak. My latest Wengers also came loose in a smaller box, but had a sticker over both scales for protection.
Come on Victorinox :pok: look after our Saks, use protection!

Yup I miss the old coffin style boxes with inserts to hold them solid.  The current style is SAK in those little small rectangle boxes and they are loose in there but the box itself is held tightly closed and Ive never had one come open in transit.  The cardboard is enough to prevent scale scratching, and Ive never seen an alox SAK from Vic arrive with surface scale scratches ever.

I'm hoping for T.T.C sake that what they say about Victorinox products is true and they're able to demonstrate it. Could be a costly battle otherwise?
Are you buying used products and tarting them up to turn a profit?
Or are you buying new products from Victorinox that are coming to you in a damaged state?

I honestly dont believe that Victorinox, built on over century of producing quality tools let their products leave their factory looking like the one N_N_R received. You have to ask yourself how a company could survive selling items like this, they wouldn't. Especially when apparently all of the SAKs that TTC receive have these scratches and damaged boxes. Why don't TTC send them back to Victorinox for warrant replacement?

It just doesn't add up ???

You make a very good point. IF they (TTC) knew about this there is no excuse for letting it leave on the way to THEIR customers!

Yes, of course, this was my first thought, too. There's just no point in making the effort and gold plating tools that look this way.

A person from my country/one of our forums asked me where I had got that SAK from and how I did it and so on. I told them the knife was generally awesome, but I strongly advised them to ask for an actual photo of the item they were going to receive.

I'm skeptical when it comes to gold plated things to begin with. I'm no expert, but I've seen gold plating tarnish horribly to where it looks like it was pulled out of a horses arse. I'm also hearing about it wearing off of Nikki's knife from TTC.

It is for these reasons, that I will stick with chrome and titanium based platings for my stuff.

Well yeah, it does a little  :-\ Close to the nail-nick where I touch it constantly to deploy the blade. The blade itself is intact because I don't use it, but since the top/the back/however you call that wears off only from me touching it...

Ha ha!  I dont think it even has a dollar of gold on it.

Ya I sold it, since I wasnt going to use it.  Buyers remorse as soon as I held it.  Im looking at getting some SAK parts gold colored though as a curiosity test but they will be titanium nitride not actual gold.   We've seen a few TiNi tools from SOG and other companies before.  Dont think Ive ever seen a SAK though.

I'm surprised you could even find a buyer for it with the scissors not working and all

Hm...... I see...

They said the gold on mine cost them $10, buttttttttttttttttttt..... you never know. Not that it makes a difference.

I'm still happy I have another alox knife, though, plus, it's black :D :tu: Even if the gold wears off, it's still a cool knife.

Maybe TTC are buying the saks in bulk and they come in different packaging all loose in one big box.
I have bought a lot of used things from them a few years ago, before they changed their name (I think they have changed it two times) and had no problems.
None of the new saks I bought  anywhere had any scratches on them.

@dks, thanks  :tu: So they were some other sort of a company before?
They used to sell mainly TSA confiscated, used, items so their original ebay name which I can not remember
described that business. Then they started selling new items and making those special coated or modified models so they changed their name.

Nothing suspicious; just a name change to better describe their business.

I have not bought from them for several years as, as they became more well known their selling prices (auctions) are now higher and they focus on newer and more expensive items
