Am I right in assuming that the majority of SAK 111mm tools are interchangeable? I have a Forester 111, the one with the saw (which I never use) and am wondering whether it is worth changing it for their Marlin Spike (assuming I can get one).If it's not practical I shall just buy a Helmsman

I have a Forester 111, the one with the saw (which I never use) and am wondering whether it is worth changing it for their Marlin Spike (assuming I can get one).If it's not practical I shall just buy a Helmsman The tools are interchangable within the same lock type SAKs. By that I mean the liner lock tools fit on liner lock models, and slider lock model tools fit on slider lock. None of the tools are the same across the series, even the wood and metal saws are different. The pin sizes are also different so while you can move a scissors layer to a liner lock model, it needs alot of tweaking. The saw on your forester is an outside layer tool, so if you can get a marlin spike to fit, it would need to use an outside layer tool backsprings so you can still have the backtool on that layer. So the question to answer then I guess is, can the marlin spike fit on that backspring the saw uses. I dont know the answer, but you'd want to compare the pivot size and tool thickness to see if it would work. And the pivot hole would have to be drilled out to fit on the larger pins the liner lock frame uses.
While I do support any mod, I can offer a used Helmsmann - either to use as is or to dismantle for modding. It was supposed to be torn apart to build a combined serrated and OHO plain edge 111 mm Vic, but the difference between the Liner- and Slidelock knives have stopped me from carrying out this mod.
