Having resigned myself to the fact that I will never get my hands on a red elinox bantam or lumberjack, I am contemplating modding modern equivalents from red alox cadets.
...But these seem impossible to find at regular store prices east of the atlantic, while fairly common in North America.

What gives?

Edelweiss had some last time I looked, though not that cheap:
https://www.edelweiss.ch/shop/USER_ARTIKEL_HANDLING_AUFRUF.php?Kategorie_ID=182&Ziel_ID=2410

You also just missed a cheap Cadet Massdrop with low priced shipping to Europe - I ordered a red one this week before it ended: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/victorinox-cadet

I don't think red Cadets are sold as standard items in Europe, but are in the USA

I've traded away a bunch of my smooth alox models with advertising for this batch:

First off, a mint red ribbed Lumberjack:

Then a mint red ribbed Cadet II with clip point blade:

Then a Micro Farmer 1/50 from 2011 with factory black oxide tools:

Then 1/50 brown Lumberjack from 2011:

Also a brand new silver Voyageur, but that's nothing special compared to these  :D
My custom SAK scale thread: http://bit.ly/1bBIzzD

Always on the lookout for smooth alox 84mm advertising Victorinox models - Bantam, Cadet, Cadet II, Voyageur! Message me if you have something

I have older SAKs in all kinds of conditions, I just got really lucky that I ran into a guy who only collects mint stuff - I really can't complain :) Took care of a lot of pieces from my list with this haul

Good on ya mate  :tu:
I came across a user quality red Elinox voyageur last month, and now i'm really itching for a red bantam and red lumberjack to keep it company.
Your haul is so damned sexy I reckon you must be able to tap into an otherworldly realm inaccessible to mere mortals  :ahhh

But as all my stuff gets used, I want to steer clear of the mint preciouses.

I like to use most (not all) of my knives too, so I have similar concerns. I'm thinking of getting a NIB red Cadet modded to have scissors, but I need Scissors from an 84mm Vic model (best) or (apparently this will also work with some modification) Scissors from an old-style 91mm SAK without hook - I've posted a WTB for these if anyone has such to sell in good condition? Wenger 85mm Scissors will also fit (and I have a Wenger Traveller with these that could be used), but I much prefer Vic Scissors, as don't like how the Wenger Scissors "catch" when cutting paper, nor how both scissors arms move when cutting.

Read somewhere that it's Damasteel >> http://damasteel.se It seems to be good metal Tom, keeps an edge and seems to be holding up well to normal use. I cannot tell the difference in actual use from Vic stainless, so I think it has more to do with asthetics than anything else. It does look different than it did new, it has gone through some scrubbings and edge maintainence due to much carry and use this year.
