After yesterday's thorny experience, went by the neighborhood bike shop to get a highly-resistant thorn system, then went as far as to upgrade the tires.
Bontrager has an unconditional warranty, and the standard LT3 tires I felt were too thin for trail tires. Was going to just do the rear tire since that's where all my (over)weight is, but decided maybe it is best to get both done. So... exercised the performance warranty and upgraded to the LT3 Hard-Case Ultimate. Joe of Eastern Oregon Cycles claims these are as good as the Specialized Crossroad Armadillos.

Got a pulled saddle that seems to fit well. Added curved handlebars, much easier to use than a flatbar. Also added a Sigma BC 1009 cycle computer, mounted on the stem.
Put the Kryptonite ATB U-lock & bracket on the top tube. Had to move the bracket over diagonal-right so as not to interfere with the cable.
Picked up two Leatherman hydration containers. I like them older style nipples, then rubber ones bug me and never seem to close right.

Should of taken a photo with my Sony Cyber-Shot, as this Olympus FE digital camera seems like it is on drugs or something.

That is a very nice list of upgrades Xelkos.  Keep us informedon the performance of those Hard-Case tires.  I road a set of Armadillos for thousands of miles on my old bike and never had a problem.

Wanted a pair of Crossroad Armadillos. The local shop is a Trek deal, Boise probably has a Specialized dealer but that's 60 miles down the road.
Former tires were the Crossroads with Kevlar, bought back in 1991. Had a set on Nimbus 26 x 1.4 road tires too, but the sidewalls blew out from age. The Crossroad tires have seen better days, Kevlar coming apart, lots of slices in the rubber. They was the best set I used, and had them for over 20 years.  :2tu:

Joe at EOC says the fella that developed the Armadillo is working for Trek now who also designed the Hard-Case Ultimate. Similar tread, but personally think the Crossroads had better gripping on the shoulders. Both do better on rough pavement and trails.

Now I will say with the extra tread hardware on these, the LT-3 HC are better than the standard LT-3, then too am packing an extra wide liner and the thicker tubes & Flat Attack sealant.

:pok:  Post a pic of them Armadillos, please.  :D  So I know what am missing out on.

No, I don't have them. I have no reason to get the Gator Skins. After extensive searching for Gator Skin MTB tires, I found that they do not make a trail tire for the MTB platform, only road MTBs. I was just making a suggestion.

They're not tubeless. IMO tubeless are a waste of money if you don't have a SAG vehicle following. They may be lighter but the are a PITA to replaced if you have a blowout. The tire has to be glued to the rim, making it virtually impossible to replace in route. If the tire isn't glued properly, it can hop off the rim. Way too much trouble for a everyday cyclist. The pros use them and love them but they do have support to replace tires.

Went on the 7th Annual Weiser River Trail Bike Ride ride yesterday. Awesome 18 miles upper, and nearly flat 10 miles lower trail. Sure wished had a front suspension fork as the Girvin FlexStem was not of much help on the vibration.

Snapped a photo of my bike on the Beaver Creek Trestle.

Think am going to remove those D&B Supply stickers, err... aerodynamic bug deflectors.

sad to say she has seen more garage time than road time.  original since the day i got her with the exception of tires and tubes

Do you know what model year your bike is? I have an 88 model in the identical color. I can't recommend enough getting the bike back up and running in good riding shape. Bianchi's are fantastic bikes and really like no other I have ever ridden.

90' or 91' IIRC.  The color Celeste Green is such an amazing color. Bianchi Giro Columbus SLX Tubing with Full Campagnolo Athena C record group set.  She is quite a bike for sure and thankfully she wont need much to get going.  It's mostly just time and excuses that have kept her on the sidelines.

Hundreds take part in naked bike ride in Mexico City
Cyclists in Mexico City have bared all for World Naked Bike Ride day to protest against car culture and to campaign for more rights for cyclists.

Edit: Removed video link, does not work here.

That's one way of getting attention.

As to not make another post, this is a test video. Worked out better than I had expected, though the trail was too much or the Gorillapod and the Sony Cyber-Shot camera mounted on it. Stayed in the mount!
Had to keep tugging the lanyard back to keep the focus forward when the camera tilted over.   Was mostly for fun, and to humor myself later.
YouTube did remove A LOT of the bounces. Was only doing 15 ~ 18 MPH too.  :D  FUN RIDE!!!!

That is a very nice list of upgrades Xelkos.  Keep us informedon the performance of those Hard-Case tires.  I road a set of Armadillos for thousands of miles on my old bike and never had a problem.

Trail wise they are like having new tires all over again. 98% of the road conditions they are good on, though rough pavement they are better. Only two cases they are not good at are:

• Curved cement gutters along a US sidewalks. The shoulder is lacking grip.
• Raised cement areas on sidewalks where cars can go over them, like mini-ramped areas. The cement tends to be elevated 2 to 3 inches above the semi-gutter and the shoulder will not grip.

Cause of that lack of shoulder gripping, went down to avoid a car that shot out at a gas station. I turned right to avoid the car, went to go diagonally across that cement ramp area (vehicle access). Was braking. Was on the pedals for braking leverage, to stop quicker. Down I went, front wheel slid out from underneath me! The driver didn't even see me, but someone filling up got out to see if I was okay.

Mangled the front derailleur. Was bent in and stuck between the tire tread & road chain-ring. Called Joe, at Eastern Oregon Cycles, to see if he's stay open so i could bring it in for repair. Rebar helped me bend it enough to get it back in trail (middle) gear to the bike shop. Joe did a really good job at bending it back into shape, but it needs replaced. Chain-ring tooth got filed some on the cement.
Dropping chain rings is easy, going back up have to push in all the way, release, push a bit more to get the chain to load. Still rideable, thank god!

Helmet saved me from road rash, and my head landing on pavement was like laying my head on a bean bag. Had my doubts about styrofoam helmets, but thankfully it was a really soft landing. :D
Right knee got to hurting when I got home. Left thumb (wide area) is hurting, had to knuckle-ride home, and switching to road gear took a bit of doing. Lost some hide on the index finger too. Took an 800mg Ibuprofen, seems to help the ouchiness.

One thing I thought was odd, and not something I would of figured would been an asset... had applied this Banana Boat Sport Performance SPF 30 sunscreen. Had mild sunburn from Saturday's 28 mile trail trek. Well, the top of my right forearm got road rash, but not as bad as it could of been.
I think the sun screen make my hide thicker & slicker, resulting in far less superficial skin loss. Who would of thought that sun screen could help prevent serious road rash??

  Stupid tires lack shoulder gripping.

Soon as my thumb can take some pressure on it I'll be back out. Will have to be extra cautious in rush hour.

Still clinch up when going to the left of popular turn-offs, like the one going into Wally's World. Cars like to get ahead of you then cut over. Gah!

My wife and me decided to buy ourselves nice bikes from the wedding presents and some savings.

I HATE couples dressing the same, using the same stuff, so I tried out several different bikes, but in the end we ended up buying 2 of the same bikes, one in a Diamond, and one in a trapezoid frame variant for her.

After my self-built Mountainbike the I owned/rode/loved for over 12 years until some smurfhole stole it, this is my first decent bike.

It´s a made in Germany Fahhradmanufaktur T50 - Black powdercoated frame, 8 gear hub, Magura hydraulic brakes, ss spokes, aluminium wheels.

I rode a variant wit a 27 gear chainshift, but I think 8 gears are more than sufficient around town and on day trips and there is much less maintenance to be done.

I ordered a straight bar with it instead of the curved one and am already thinking about loosing the big chainguard in favour of a chainring and adding bear claw pedals.

We ordered 2 hefty chain locks so these bikes stay with us.

http://www.fahrradmanufaktur.de/bikes/trekking/2013-t-50-shimano-nexus-8-gang-hs1-fl/

We will collect them on monday.

Just thought to add... by generous accessorizing (rack, pannier & other bags, basket, locks, mudguards, yadda...) and some part swapping (grips, pedals), I have effectively doubled the bike's original value
