Maglite
on: August 17, 2008, 10:02:54 PM
Sent my ancient 2AA in after digging it up at my parent's house and discovering a couple of dead, one desintegrated, Duracells. The tail cap wouldn't actually close all the way for some reason. After roughly a month (which isn't much, considering it had to be picked up by the company), I got the same one back in working condition; minus the spare lamp in tail cap (?). Bought a couple of Krypton spares from the same store, though it says "don't use with rechargeable batteries, under penalty of death". I rate the experience "meh".

By the way, a 2AA Maglite costs ~40 $ around here.

Thanks, I appreciate that. However, the body is what worries me least.

Besides, you may not want to part with your mainframe just yet...

Yep the grease is just for sealing it :)

I should point out though that the 'coal' isn't exactly hot, so best have some bone dry tinder handy :D

The first time I saw a fire piston I thought it was some sort of trick.  :D

How long have these things been around?

Geez, apparently they have been around for thousands of years in some cultures, but only about 200 years in the West.

I can't believe I didn't come across fire pistons back in my scouting days. Seems like they are still relatively unknown to most people.

I am definitely going to have to make or get one.  :)

Anyway, here's a "definitive" fire piston, maybe it'll be clear things out.

Camo Mag Lites are quite common around here. I see them at all the major sporting goods stores like Bass Pro, Dicks, and the like..

i used to have one user in camo but it got stolen recently but friend of mine brought this one missing the tail cap, about week ago.its othervise complete but it needs the tailcap, but i dont think its a problem to have one.with nite-izes conversion kit its a nice reliable cheap beater with tailcap switch and few leds.

i have one with that kit, from one member and its just plain good
