Well, going with Higgins idea, what if we say we'll start the challenge on October 1st using the minimalist SAK of your choice.

Let us know the choice, and the goal is to try and use it exclusively. Feel free to provide updates in this thread, whether good or bad. Pics always encouraged.

Sound ok?

Now, off to pick my SAK (:ahhh)

OK  :tu: I've decided what I'm going to carry, and it's not the Tourist. If I'm going to go minimal for a month, I might as well do it in style - especially as it's my birthday in October  ;)

Pics to follow

I'm sure this qualifies. It's not even got any scale tools  :D

Wow, that is a nice looking Wenger! What are the scales?

You have to do this now, when the next two SAKs I have coming aren't minimalist by any stretch of the imagination.....

It would be a simple choice for me.  My Tinker was my only carry tool for quite a while before I discovered this evil place.  ;)  I've carried it on its own for much longer than 30 days at a stretch.

I can't think of anything more minimal than the bantam that has a full size blade as well as a tool implement.  So, I think that is my final answer.  Its also not too much $$$, which is good.

Ha, sorry!

I think a two layer would be too easy for me also, thats why I'm thinking the bantam.  Something that will stretch me a bit.

Heck I spent two years just carrying an alox Bantam anyway - doesn't get much more minimal than that! Here I thought I'd been splurging on a big, heavy Spartan

Yeah, the way I thought about this...I usually carry SAKs with phillips and scissors, so getting rid of both of those should be a challenge.

If Vic ever makes a swiss army tie clip, I'll probably rearrange my whom wardrobe for it.

Great idea.  :tu:

I've got a choice of Tinker, small Tinker, Spartan, Cadet, Bantam or Pioneer. I think probably the Tinker. I could build a Compact + phillips but that's probably cheating.  :D

I carried a 91mm Golfer (essentially a pre-hook Compact) for many years. So I know I can live with that. But it would be hard to give up the scissors.

I'd probably go for something like an Alox Pioneer or Electrician if I had to do without the scissors.

Interesting one,this...

My minimum work carry needs to have a Phillips and scissors. Yes,I know must stuff you cut with scissors can be done a blade, but not at my work place.

I'm interested,but it'll be a wait and see
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

Like Kirk I would say an in-line philips and scissors are handy for my work, but I'm up for the challenge. I'll have to use my SI as it's the only minimalist SAK I own. Does that count?

I really don't think I could use a 2 layer SAK exclusively for 30 days.

3 layer would be too easy though...   :ahhh

If I may suggest... Can we amend the rule to "3 layers or less"? This would include those like the Farmer, etc and probably bring in a lot more participation. Some here may not be able to go out and buy a new knife right now for example due to needs or budget, etc.

I'm a Pioneer guy here and could easily do it, but I'm thinking that some here may appreciate 3 layers... :)

As long as the number of keys on my keyboard are not limited I'm good. I think I could get almost everything done with my Rally (although I would have to change the sort of apple I eat, they would have to be much smaller ).
A Cadet would also work for me. The Pioneer lacks the nail-file apart from that it should work too.

But isn't the point to get something new :D. I think I should buy a Signature Lite and put those scales on a Rally (or a Rambler == Midnight Manager), then dump my flashlight and pen too.
Or as a truly exotic choice, the SwissCard Lite ?

Or maybe a Wenger? The Wenger Junior 04 would be an interesting choice. Although the absence of an in-line screw-driver would make that an "interesting"-choice. Actually, the Wenger can-opener is a real handicap, as it results in no small screw-driver.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

2 layers, 30 days.
Sounds like a job for the Compact.

Anything below I wouldn't do.
Scissors and nail file are essential.

The natural outgrowth of this thread will be a new one titled Maximalist Challenge: 5 SAKs for 30 days.

Were I to participate in the instant challenge, it would be with a Classic SD.  Anything worth doing is worth overdoing.  I really think I could get by just fine with a Classic SD.  I just don't want to.  :)
