Can anyone tell me what this says?

My Nan found this written on the bottom of a small metal (Pewter??) box that belonged to a relation of ours.  Does anyone have any ideas what it says?

I'm not convinced it "says" anything. The whole thing looks as though it is made up from the same shape ( C ) almost entirely. If it were another language or something, surely there would be a wider selection of letters in it?

It could just be a decorative pattern, or something that only means something to the creator or intended recipient. Do you know anything about where your relation got it Ben? Is it a pill box?

When I get chance, I'll take a few pics of some of the things my Grandad left me when he passed away.  I'll be interested to see if anyone has any info on any of them.

Not yet Ben - I'm looking forward to seeing it on Wednesday! I've just posted up my 'Wanted List' in the Tools Needed forum actually, and that's on it! I just stuck a pic of my new BO PST somewhere on here too, meaning I've got 4 slightly different PSTs now, but no riveted one. In fact here's a pic!

You know, when I first saw that inscription, my first thought was that someone had written it in an Elvish script! Sorry, I was forged by Professor Tolkien.

If you guys were serious about Sauron's inscription on the Ring of Power, in the Elvish script the Black Speech is written:

"Ash nazg durbatuluk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatuluk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul"

Translated into Westron, or the Common Speech:

"One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them"

I'm going to consult my tables and see if I can tell if that is indeed Elvish. Don't laugh, but I did say I was a geek.
