So this is not one of the official care packages but thought I would include it. I missed out due to me going off the grid a few days at a time. Then after soliciting a gift swap Chako took me up on the offer but refused to provide a return address. I was very touched by the kind example of the true meaning of Xmas which inspired me throughout the holiday period.
Anyhow here is a pic of my haul. Along with a thoughtful Christmas card from Chako, I got a sweet little note from Australian Customs Service letting me know nothing was missing or damaged after they ransacked the parcel (who clearly had been hanging onto this for at least 6 weeks).  :salute:
Chako is the man :tu:

Very nice package... whats in the 1st aid box :pok:, we need more pictures :pok:
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Very happy. I was worried for a whole month now and was ready to send you another package.

I mailed that at the same time as Scattergun13 and Etheralicer's package...which was November 13. Stew got his in a week's time, Etheralicer got his by the end of November. Man, and here I thought Canadian Customs were bad!

Very happy you received it.  :salute:

EDIT: By the way, I thought it would be a nice touch to send a Coleman copy of the military FRED that I received from another Aussie member. I do not think Coleman produces those any more, as that is from the mid 90s. I bought a pair of those for University field studies in Elliot Lake Ontario...circa 1994 if memory serves me right.  :tu:

The first aid kit is great and will be going in my wife's car, because we drive my son around in that vehicle as it is not a heap of crap like mine. I already have a very comprehensive first aid kit in my car. The car I use at work has an even better one.

Just out of curiosity, are you not required to have a first-aid kit in your car? Here, and I think in most of Europe, the first-aid kit is a requirement together with a load of other stuff (alcohol tester (France only?), signal vest...).

Really? An alcohol tester in France? I am shocked.

In Canada, you don't have to carry anything. The smart, wise, and experienced do.

:gimme: Is that a whoopie cushion?? NO wonder customs held on to it for so long, does seem kinda questionable, some awesome knives, first aid kid and a whoopie cushion.... Sounds like the tool set of Hannibal Lecter haha.

Down here The Motor Traffic Act stipulates that any driver that comes across an accident must take reasonable steps to render assistance to another driver who is sick and or injuried. The Act is not specific as to what one has to do. You are not covered for mal practise for giving medical assistance in the Act however, unless you have received training for whatever first aid you provide and this training includes some form of public liability insurance. "I think"
Thus to be honest I don't blame people for not stopping, in fact I encorage it, if there are already people there calling for assistance, and for all kinds of other reasons including there own safety.
I have to be even more careful that most off-duty as technically I can be sued. I believe there used to be some kind of good samaritan law. But I once spoke to a lawyer about it in passing who said something like "Don't bet on it". But generally as long as your not "helping people against there will" your ok I believe.

Here we just have to have a signal vest.

Btw, the fine for having a signal vest and not wearing it is 2x the fine for not having one. So, if you are in an accident and are too nervous to remember to wear it, if cops come along, say you don't have one.

I´m sure it will arrive - I had packages from the US take anything from 6 days to 6 weeks.
Is there a tracking/customs form number?

Glad you received it Thomas. We try to take care of everyone when doing these pools. I think this year we will have some stricter rules then previously, as each year Tom and I have done this we've learned lessons.

I still owe you some pics.

First, I received a  nice package from Canada, as our Boss wanted to make sure I get something nice for Christmas.

The package contained a CRKT Eat-N-Tool that will go into my Day-hike pack or will live in my storage room at work for the off occasion when you need a spoon or fork in your lunchbreak.

Apart from that I received a nice Victorinox lapel pin and a bottle of his Snakeoil Multi-Tool oil. Thanks Def!

And as Joel is a good one, he came through and sent me a very nice package, too!

I received a boxed 125th Anniversary Vic Climber and a Heckler&Koch neck knife.

Thanks to JafromMn, too!

As I feel it is a bit unfair I received 2 presents, I will have a look at my stuff and hold a nice Giveaway to make up for that.

Again, thanks Ashley, Tom and Grant for organizing this, thanks to Joel for a nice present!

The H&K is very sexy. I used to be an MP5 fan in my youth. I still like H&K, Mauser, Luger, Walther and SIG Sauer stuff, but since I  decided years ago that I should be unarmed to keep people unharmed, a nice knife like this might be acquirable without contraindicating my peaceful intentions.
I believe that you should keep everything as a compensation for the long waiting. I feel better now that Ashley can declare the xmas pool as COMPLETE!

Yes it is complete and I agree you should keep them. If packages were mailed when they were suppose to be it would have definitely arrived by Christmas, so for your wait please keep both!

Not always. I mailed 3 packages at the same time. One to the US, another to Switzerland, and a third to Australia. The US package arrived inside of a week. The Switzerland package, inside 2 1/2 weeks. The Australian package sat at the Australian border practically past the new year. That means they had it for well over a month.

Frankly, when it comes to International mailings, it is a grab bag on when it will arrive, which is why I mailed mine as soon as I could...and even with that, one package didn't arrive on time due to some unknown holdup.

I have had an experience similar to Chako's. One time I shipped 3 packages at the same time -- one to Australia, one to the U.K., and one to Canada. The package headed to Australia was delivered in 8 days. The package to the UK took about 2 weeks. The package headed to Canada took almost a full month to be delivered, even though it didn't have to cross an ocean like the other two did.

actually, I think that package might have been one for Chako.

I agree with Chako's statement... there's only so much you can do. Once it's in the hands of the customs office, it's completely out of your control.
