Gerber Myth Field Sharpener.
on: November 07, 2014, 05:43:03 AM
Meet the Gerber Myth Field Sharpener.

This model features two diamond files, one small, and the other larger, designed to sharpen different sized serrations. Also included are two pull through V sharpeners, one a fine ceramic, the other a coarse carbide. This means that unlike the Camillus Glide, the Gerber is meant to only sharpen knives be they plain bladed or serrated. No hook sharpener, no scissor sharpener, etc. With that said, the Camillus Glide is not suited to sharpening serrations.

For some info on the Camillus Glide...look here: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,55499.0.html

What I like most about this design, it folds upon itself, protecting your sharpening bits in a hard plastic and rubber cover. When closed, it looks like a plier based multitool. The design lends itself quite nicely where you can fold over one handle and  keep the other to give you support resting on a flat surface. This gives you excellent control over the sharpener. A nice design that not only protects your sharpener, but aids in using it.

That does look nice. Have you tried using it, or is it part of the collection?

I try every sharpener on something dull in my house. The V notches work as advertised. I have never had to sharpen serrations on a knife before...so I didn't give those a try.

The v notches work but they remove a lot of steel. I use them on my cheap kitchen knifes. Once I put a good edge on a good knife I don't need to sharpen them very often I only need to straighten the edge out with a ceramic rod to keep them sharp.

I think Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency.
