Worst Movie Ever?
on: November 08, 2014, 05:31:40 AM
After posting on the movie thread, I started wondering how people calibrated their movie rating system. I rate movies with a bottom end scale based on a few movies that I consider to be absolutely the worst ever.

Manos: Hands of Fate
This movie was used on Mystery Science Theater 3000, and is truly terrible, but is not, for me, the worst movie of all time, although I WOULD rate it 1/10

Skeleton Man
This movie makes an unfair 2/10 on IMDB. It doesn't deserve the second point. It is unforgivably bad. 1/10

But the movie I currently use as the measure for the bottom of the barrel movie is...

Storm of the Dead.
Holy Smurfing Smurf! This movie is bad in every imaginable way. I mean, right down to sound, lighting... everything.
ONE person on the whole cast can act. Everyone else makes me want to drill holes in my brain. It is a badge of pride I have for sitting through this. There is a scene of two characters sneaking through the undergrowth, no dialogue, no nothing, that is LITERALLY 5 minutes long (from 33:55 to 39:15 in the movie linked below).

It's on YouTube for free, if you have the mental fortitude to suffer through it.

I recommend doing so, just to calibrate your movie rating system. It will make a really meh film like the Dolf Lundgren 'Punisher' seem like a solid 5. It would even make you hate Uwe Boll less. So much so that his movies start seeming like they have a certain cheesy charm.

So, what is the worst movie ever for you guys? I WOULD like to ask that any movie you rate as worst ever be one you've actually managed to finish, but I won't mandate it.

Frozen, not the disney movie, but the god awful "horror" movie. By far the worst thing I've forced myself to sit through with not a single redeeming feature, about half way through I was rooting for their demise  How it got a 6/10 is beyond me

That stuck on ski chair movie? It's even worse if you actually ski, don't get me started on how utterly impossible the whole premises, and the plot devices are.

The worst movie ever is Morgan Kane: death is a lonely hunter.
Its awfull in every way. The actors cant act, they can barely speak english, the skript and story is a mess and the filming is crap.
Its on youtube. part one is here :

So many areas to choose from:

-Low budget schlock

-Pretentious tripe

- Sleezy gorefests

And some things that are so perverse you wonder if anyone in Hollywood has a brain.

A personal hate - El Topo.  The Spaghetti Western meets Fellini. A nasty mess that I walked out on half way through.

The Pink Angels would be my worst movie ever. Acting and scenarios are just over the top bad.

At least the above movies seem to be low budget efforts. It's the mega budget stuff like Transformers that I would put forward- absolutely dire and cost the earth to make and just one long toy advert.

Yeah that was horrible.  Personally Santa Claus Conquers the Martians is at the top of my list, along with Ed Wood's Glen or Glenda.  Watched that for extra credit in a psych class at college.  The assignment was simply to sit through it without turning it off.  Psych professors can be sadistic....

Here's another personal "favorite" - The Babe Ruth Story.  This was made just before Ruth died, and he did get to see it three weeks before he died.  I wonder if he remembered curing a paralyzed kid just by saying hi to him, curing a kid's cancer by hitting a home run for him in the World Series, and other things the movie has him doing?   For sure he remembered that his first wife left him, which is conveniently ignored in the film by not having her exist at all.  Poor Babe.  I can picture him sitting there thinking, "Lou Gherig got a classic like Pride of the Yankees, and I get this piece of smurf."  :(

In no particular order:

Battlefield Earth
Catwoman
Show Girls
Star Wars The Phantom Menace
Dare Devil
Any recent Steven Seagal movie.

- Knight and Day

Battlefield earth was a horrible movie, but the book it was based on... I think that this was the first and only time for me that I found a movie that was much better than the book it was based on. In fact all books by L. Ron Hubbard are utter smurfing smurf of a smurf etc.  :D No wonder the guy was forced to invent a religion just to make his living!

some movies (bad ones) are fun because they are so bad and cheap, like the old monster and horror movies, poor acting, what were they thinking directing and low budgets, they can be fun!

but when you have a movie with big stars or normally good actors and decent budgets but directors who must have been wasted "out of order" your deserving a Pink Elephant award!

Highlander II was such a terrible movie. I remember "booing" in the theater watching it it was soooo bad (I wasn't alone). I expected so much more because the first one was so good. that is still the worst movie I ever paid to see

I remember seeing it with the highest expectations and was perplexed, promising my wife's that it should get better and meaningful later. It didn't. Highlander and Greystoke were frozen in time and Lambert never played in a good movie again, unlike Connery thankfully.

I saw Highlander II in the theater (luckily, a $1 cheap theater), and I still almost got up and walked out. Yeah, that thing was a travesty.

I recall while watching it, thinking that whoever edited the film should have been shot.

HOWEVER, I watched the original Highlander not too long ago, and honestly, it's not all that great. Seeing it recently, without the nostalgia visors on was interesting. Someone mentioned the original Mad Max above, and I remember liking it... back in the 80s when i saw it as a kid. Now? Hmmm... think I'll pass.

In defense of Highlander II (and I know I'm on shaky ground here) but have you folks seen Highlander III?  No, it's not the worst film I've ever seen but it's just a rubbish remake of the first one.  Woeful IMO.  At least with part II they attempted to do something original, the fact they made a mess of it almost doesn't matter to me compared to the trot that was part III.

Most of the Gamera movies. The origional is OK, and the three from 90s are actually good, but most of them... I don't think you can be over the age of 10 and not run the risk of brain damage- roll a san check. The really juvenile Godzilla movies and no small portion of the entire kaiju genre are just as bad.
