Star Wars Metal Earth models.
on: November 09, 2014, 03:23:58 PM
I came across these in a counter top display case, and the R2-D2 model on display looked stunning. I bought one of each model they had.

Not sure how hard these are to build...it does say 14+ on the packaging, so I must assume hard enough to make it worthwhile to do. Won't know till I make them which might be some time in the future...possibly on my Christmas break.

Here is their web site.

http://www.fascinations.com/

And if this link works, a 360 of R2-D2.

I saw these in a shop about 6 months ago.

I was tempted, but since there is no Boba Fett/Slave 1 related one I passed.

I just finished the first model...that of R2-D2.

I can see why the instructions state 14 years or older. This was just a little challenging to accomplish which makes it all the more fun.

They definitely do look cool.

I don't think it'd be too much of an issue for me to put together, at least when compared to some surface mount electronics components I worked with in the past, I doubt my hands are as steady and sure as they once were...

$40 for all 4 on amazon.

I just started to look and they have a lot of different models like famous structures to cars and what not. I really like the Mars Rover one. I might have to get it and give it a go.

They are quite fun to put together. Just be sure to examine everything twice before you move. I followed the directions to a T and was forced to take apart something twice in order to proceed further correctly.

Will do. I always take my time and make sure everything is correct when I do a model.  :tu:

When I was in high school there was this annoying girl on the bus. One day she was telling anyone who would listen that someone asked her if she was a model.

I asked "a model of what?"

Shut her right up.....

Just completed the second model. This one was difficult. I had to put it away for a few weeks before I got enough courage to continue. I must have been in the wrong frame of mind, because everything went smooth this time around.

:tu: nice job! I've done three of them, none of Star Wars but a scorpion, Eiffel tower, and the titanic. I like them they can be a little tricky but that's what models are for! I'm working on a glue one now but think I'll be going back to the metal ones and doing the tanks then so on..

IMHO the tie advanced is probably the nicest looking of the available star wars line.

I would like to see a snow speeder...

omg there's 8 of them now:

Just finished the Milllennium Falcon. I found this one the easiest. Maybe because I am getting used to making them.

Loving that Falcon!

It always struck me as both elegant and lumbering at the same time- an odd combination bit I don't think another spacecraft (perhaps other than the NX 01 Enterprise) has really pulled that off.

Nice job :tu: The only thing I'm not to thrilled on doing any of the metal ones are the small amount of pieces, I like large numbers, but I loved the metal ones, especilly not having to paint them, that's not one of my strong suits..

The last model, the AT-AT Walker.

These were a lot of fun to build. They also look great in a display cabinet. These are keepers.  :tu:

Nice job Chako, I got to get a few more "metal earth models", I'm working on a regular plastic one, only thing that sucks with them is you got to paint them :-\
