I can not be the only one who is curious, but are these 91mm builds already spoken for?

Tumbled titanium with screwed construction and all BO?

The pinned with regular tools is nice too though.

Yes thats really the case.  I knew I could do better and since I was building it to show off the mod I wanted it to be perfect.  I have 2 sets of scales tumbling now and I'll get an example together tomorrow finally.  First one will be screw construction, then I'll do a rivet one.  I'll just practice the peening first.   :tu:

Oh no only a few sets have been spoken for and this is something I will keep running (assuming people want them) so its not a limited edition run or anything like that.  I dont take any advance payment so none are paid for or sold.

The main idea here is to offer an upgrade path for the standard 91mm SAK.  The metal of the tools between the 91 and 93 is the same.  The parts of the 91 that make it feel cheap to me are the low grade aluminum liners and plastic scales.  Swap those liners out for alox, brass or nickel silver, and put on alox or Ti scales and it should be pretty sweet I think.

Q: Why is it that this thread has me considering a SwissCard?
A: For the tweezers, toothpick, and scissors.

Which has led me to looking at Alox SAK's that I'd previously disregarded due to their lack of tweezers, toothpick and scissors.

I need a drink and a winning lottery ticket...
I EDC'd a SAK before MacGyver did...

See its interesting.  Lots of tools COULD be put on a knife, but not all make sense.  Tweezers dont NEED to be part of a knife, but you need tweezers on you.  I like to have them in the manager on my keychain.  I also have a swisscard in my wallet which Ive never actually used, but its just been there.

Tools that need a handle and leverage need to be on a knife.  Openers, blades, scissors etc.

Another tool that doesnt make sense to me on a knife is a light.

I know lots of people like the nail file from a cadet on a SAK, but I think thats an odd one too, better to put on a keychain 58mm SAK.  Throw a classic on your keychain and youve got a nailfile and T&T.

But, some tools don't need to NOT be on a pocket knife. I have been carrying a SwissChamp for a couple years due to its tool density. The Plus scales with their additional pen and pin have gotten me out of a few jams, and amazed bystanders as well. Come to think of it, the only tool on my Champ that hasn't seen much use is the fish scaler. Though it's ruler has been handy a few times. Every other tool gets used with some frequency.

Do I have other SAK's / MT's (and knives, lighters, flashlights, etc) available? Certainly, "One is None" is a common theme with me. However, my Champ is always dangling in my left front pants pocket (except when in places where it would be confiscated as a weapon) while the other tools are strategically located elsewhere. My keychain isn't ALWAYS on me. Nor is my wallet. Or my bag. But, my Champ is in my pocket as soon as I put my pants on.

In my opinion, your point is valid (especially when considering this topic and the associated challenges), but it doesn't hold true for every situation. I'm currently trying to figure out how your creation could be adapted to meet my needs, with some accessorizing, and still be located in one pocket.

Finally... here we go!  Super tinker with black alox liners.

It was starting to snow when I was taking pics, so these are the best I have for now.

It was trial and error to get that hidden pin just the perfect length but it worked perfect.  I put a flat bottom hole half way through the scale and the thing is rock solid.  I'll take some video next to show the action of the tools as they work perfectly.  I was worried a bit about the back tools operating on the larger pivot diameter, but no problem at all, good snap and rock solid feel.

Nice to see it has a "useful" hook. i.e. the one that is a life support system for a nailfile.

And now I'll only be able to look at Celidor SAKs as donors to make one with these scales (or the upcomong alox 91s)

PTR makes a good point here.

So I am not the only one who has to try and find a reason not to send celly SAKs off to Syph or Mile. Only was I could make sure was buy a old semi collector Yeoman.

That is beautiful. I don't care about the toothpick and tweezers but I do use the pin occasionally. Having said that the T and T with the pin and pen would be good too. Another vote for the Swisschamp version too.

Well I did alot of debating and thinking and I finally decided on the tweezer and scale issue.  No toothpick option as its too hard to make them fit right, but I will offer a tweezer option.

Now I didnt want to include any scale tools originally but this was mostly because I didnt want to have the inner liners.  Well I solved that.  If I put the slot in just the right spot, the backspring acts as the backing for the tweezer so no extra liner needed.  Normally the tweezer is on the front, but I wanted to keep the front scale unaltered.  Win-win!

Oh also I removed the plastic nub from the tweezers and rivitted on a small piece of stainless (from a backspring actually) :D

And here is the first build.  Ti deluxe tinker, blue scales and black alox liners.  Tweezers on back scale.

Took me awhile, but I am very happy with it!   :tu:
