Leatherman Fuse
on: December 05, 2013, 05:36:07 AM
Finally used my Leatherman Fuse today.  I generally have not liked it as the plastic grips feel cheap to me.  Today, I made 5 paracord lanyards and a paracord bracelet and needed the thin needle nose pliers to tighten up prior to melting ends.  In this light work the Leatherman Fuse was the right tool for the job. :salute:

I found a fuse hanging on one of our chip magnets at work. Works for me.

The Fuse has long been one of my favorite tools.  The only way to improve it is to add and awl (or grind the small screwdriver into one).

I picked one up today in an antiques type shop for £10. Given it a little spray of WD and it's pretty good. New to this addiction and this is my first Leatherman. If this is one of the basic models then I am impressed. Feels quality in the hand.

It is Zytel nylon, and not plastic. That nylon is very durable stuff.
A little Leatherman information.

When using the drivers the Zytel  makes the tool super comfortable to use. I kind of had that cheap feeling about them also until I started really using that series.

I understand the Zytel on a MT give the tool a "cheap" look but I've found the Zytel to be quite comfortable as well.

The only way?  Hmm... done the awl (standard large driver from memory).  Might try Rebar pliers

I was a Zytel sceptic at first but for my hands, in comparison with Rebar, I find the handles very comfortable.  Also in comparison with Rebar I like the constant handle thickness and the smooth rivet-less appearance.

OK, fits but the Fuse handles block the crimper so swapped back.

How often do you use the crimper?

Never, because I have been trained to only use a ratchet crimper  on pain of dismissal :twak:.  TBH I'm happier with Fuse's slightly finer pliers.
