Best plier based MT for food prepping
on: February 20, 2016, 11:44:10 PM
I was thinking about Charge AL for doing some food related stuff outside (and I need pliers too),
pretty smooth scales easy up the cleaning, but it still has two blades and scissors that can help opening packages and such.
Also I think the lock can still work nicely with some basic mineral oiling.

Or maybe go smaller, like Juice, but then cutting larger vegetables gets more annoying with smaller blade... so that blade size seems to weight more on my scales.

What would you pick or recommend instead?

ps. ...and Flair is just silly.

I bring my Swisstool for my camp MT.  I have no other reason that its just works.  I do like the chisel and awl for outdoor stuff.  The wood saw is also a great tool.  Clean up for me is either a dip in water or alcohol wipes.  So far its held up great and while heavy the trade off is its heavy duty and ready for the job.

Well I guess Swisstool RS would be the best after all... Scissors and two blades.
A bit weighty and big, but option for corkscrew also.
And easy to clean and to keep hygienic cause the simple layout and smooth surfaces.

Only bad thing I guess is pivoted handles that makes it impossible to clean up by taking it to parts.

Not impossible, I've run hot water down the pivots when at camp.  Did you see the thread of the member who put theirs in the dishwasher?

I saw the thread but dragging a dishwasher to the camp might get troublesome...

I also use my swisstool X for basic food prepping. The blade is long and thin with only a nail nick, the charge has a cut out hole which always gets clogged up with food and debris. (dont buy the skeletool for this :D )

The tool has a clean design so there are not a lot of place for food to clog up.
As stated in the thread i put my swisstool through the dishwasher about once every and it doesn't seem the bother the tool and its as clean again as the day it left the factory :tu:
Due to the polished surfaces and the the washers the swisstool doesn't need any oil to function properly so you have no chance of oil getting in to your food.
