Just tried watching The Devil's Rejects.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

Loved House of 1000 Corpses. Didn't even finish Devil's Rejects, I thought it was that bad. It reminded me of a less successful 'From Dusk Till Dawn' (first half), with a little 'Natural Born Killers' mixed in, and for the record, I also didn't like Natural Born Killers.

Although I like the character of Captain Spaulding in both movies.

And the Captain Spaulding on the boards IS a character. Maybe a different subject altogether. :D

Do you mean bad as in poorly written/filmed or as in morbid?

I found House of 1000 Corpses to be a bit poorly filmed and The Devils Rejects to be filmed much better. Both morbid.  :D

Yes I am a character. Its a fact that is awesome and terrible all rolled up into one multitool loving package. I hate clowns by the way. Confused yet?  :D

To show you how behind the times I am, this is the only Captain Spaulding I'm familiar with.

"One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got in my pajamas I'll never know."

Do you mean bad as in poorly written/filmed or as in morbid?

Mostly it was the writing. House of 1000 Corpses did a good job as an homage to 70's slasher films. Devil's Rejects... let me see if I can explain it. It's like it was trying WAY to hard to SHOCK me. And I don't shock, so it came across as a clumsy effort. Worse, there wasn't any plot that I could see, and none of the characters were sympathetic. So, it was one big ball of pointless violence.

Morbid doesn't bother me. I went to Art Institute or Pittsburgh, and was within a hair's breadth of going into special effects there under Tom Savini. There is no amount of blood or gore that bothers me. At least not fake blood and gore. There is mostly no atrocious act in film (again the fake kind) that bothers me. But when 'shocking' violence is all a film has, I find it meh.

Hope that clarifies.

As for 'shot better', I am about 99% certain that House of 1000 Corpses was shot the way it was intentionally, to emulate low budget 70's films. For instance, there are no color filters used on bare fluorescents in the film, making them all look greenish. This is the hallmark of low-budget 'shot in a real location' movies. Then again... House of 1000 Corpses was only a 7mil movie, so it WAS kind of low budget. :D

Makes perfect sense. I never really thought about House of 1000 Corpses emulating budget 70's films, but I think you are correct. Its been quite a while since I have seen House of 1000 Corpses.

I should of said I was scared of clowns as a child. I do not hate them at all. Especially not ones that are Kiwis.
