What weird and wonderful alternatives do people use for keeping their keyring together?

Please post pics here, with some explanation as to why you find them better than a normal split-ring.

When you use these, don't things get to the bottom of your pockets? I have the Vcitorinox but it's shorter.

coated cable -- so much easier to manage than a split ring, and it only cost me a couple bucks.  :tu:

I like that vic belt thingy.  I wish I had less keys to carry around.

breezy nice tidy set up there.  hows that little cable barrel closure hold up? does it loosen over time?

thanks Aloha  :salute:

I've been carrying this one for almost 2 years now, and I haven't ever had a problem with it coming undone.  you have to do several full rotations with the barrel to open/close it.  every once in awhile, I notice that it has come loose by a half turn, or even a full turn, but never anywhere close to actually popping open.

the coating on the cable is starting to show some wear, but like I said, it was only a couple bucks, so it won't be a big deal to replace it if the cable starts to fray.

well nice tidy set up and the TTtool looks sweet on stand by.  I carry so many flipping keys its lame actually.  I tried to leave some at home but my truck requires 3 then there's the additional locks for ladders and POBOX key so when its all said and done Im rocking a key ring like Schneider.

thanks -- the TT Chopper is a recent addition (a couple months ago), but I really like having it as a complement to whatever MT I am carrying that day.  :tu:

I have to admit -- my car keys are not included in this pic.  I have 2 different car keys, each one with an annoyingly large keyless entry fob.  (my wife and I trade cars depending on who is driving the kids around that day.)  I use a carabiner to attach whichever car key I am using that particular day to my key ring in the picture, which pretty much doubles the size.  :(  but overall, I feel like my system works pretty well.

I'm still using split rings but they are organized by a bike chain half-link:

You can also attach a master link and put your keys directly on that similar to the key shackle from True Utility!

I don't have a pic handy ATM, but I basically just use a small split ring for each item or set of items, then use a small to medium size carabiner to hold all the rings together.  This arrangement is fairly secure, but I can still quickly separate one key or item from the bunch.  I can also use the carabiner to attach the keys to a belt loop etc.  Finally, a carabiner can be a handy thing to have in its own right.

I have two sets with me: one for EDC items, another for keys.

The EDC is made from a little clip from one of these neck thingies:

I used some paracord to tie it to a small carabiner. The carabiner attaches to the belt loop in my trousers, the flashlight, Gerber artifact and mini MT hang from the clip.

For the keys I use one of this (or very similar):

The split ring is on the inside with the keys. I put a dog collar clip (bottom pic) on the loop where the spil ring is and attach it to another belt loop. The "purse" doesn't close completelly but works fine, avoids the keys from cutting into my pockets.

I'll try to get some pics, as soon as I find out how to upload them...

Pieced it together from a pocket watch chain. (use to be gold in color, rubbed off) Split rings don't sit right in my pocket. They bulge out while everything else sits flat.
Exp:

So a collapsible key chain is in order for comfortable carry. Plus I think it looks nicer...

Sorry to resurrect a year old thread, but my dear old dad always used a ring from a grenade pin as his keyring.  Indestructible, if a bit difficult to change out key set ups.
