Why are ST's better than Spirit's?
on: July 24, 2008, 09:40:51 PM
I notice on this forum that the Swiss Tool reigns supreme, Even amongst Spirit owners, the ST seems to be the winner.

Question is, is it just the blade or are there other reasons?

I actually prefer the Spirit.  :)

I prefer the Spirit over the ST.  The size is perfect for my uses, and it's more ergonomic.

I wouldn't call it better.. After all, it is a refined SwissTool basically.. Personally, I like the SwissTool because it is bigger and IMO it just feels better in hand.. I find the Spirit's handles are too close together..

I just prefere it over my Spirit because it has an air of indestructability that only mass can bring :)

And it really is one tough tool, the strongest out there by my reckoning :)
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

ST has a ruler, and a lot of people don't like the butter knife.  Vic has switched the butterknife for a more normal sort of blade on the Sprits they are making now.

I like them both, but I would pick the Spirit for EDC because it's lighter.

I like both, but the ST is stronger, and that is a plus for me.

I can say that I've noticed this at all. There are PLENTY of Spirit lovers who rate it above the Swisstool. Count me down as another who prefers the Spirit. IMHO it is, BY FAR, the best multi-tool I have ever owned or even held for that matter.

Another vote for the Spirit over the ST for the simple matter of size.

I can definitely understand how the size and weight of the SwissTool can be a deciding factor for many. It is like picking up a brick of solid metal.

That can be a good or bad thing, depending upon what your needs are...

Good question .I think the Spirit is the best all round multitool on the market BUT the Swisstools sheer bulk and strenght make it the EDC winner for me . I've said this so many times in the past but if you find yourself in the sh*t one day and have a spirit with you would you wish you had its bigger stronger brother with you instead ?

I have a SwissTool RS and a Spirit S, and like them both. The SwissTool is large and very capable, the Spirit is a little smaller and is also very capable. What sets them apart for me is the Spirit has a much more easy/comfortable to use handle design. I'm not a sheath guy, so when I have one with me it's either in my bag or in my back pocket. Obviously, the Spirit being lighter is more comfortable to have riding in my back pocket.

IF'S:

If the SwissTool had squared off drivers and a real #2 Phillips head, it would be perfect. I don't list a one hand opening blade for it as everything is tucked away inside. A one hand opening blade would change it's overall design, something I am fine with the way it is.

If the Spirit had a one hand opening blade, squared off drivers and a real #2 Phillips head, it would be perfect.

Mike

ps I'm still considering the LM Blast and/or LM Core. Might be Leatherman's semi-equivalent to my SwissTool and Spirit combination.
Common sense ..... so rare, it's virtually a super power.
