Okay, I know I have probably made a bit of a fool of myself, but this trip has been canceled (you did notice the maybe in the thread title, right?).
Couple of reasons, the most important one being my wife: she wants to join me on this trip. Which means our daughter (three months old) has to come with us as well. For obvious reasons I'm not taking a young child on such a ridiculous and hectic journey. So we're definitely doing it someday, just not now. It would probably be a longer vacation. We are now thinking about spending this summer vacation in Switzerland. Longer trip, more things to see, more time to relax. More time for SAK-related activities.

Etherealicer and jaydar: thanks a lot for your tips/advise. As for the beer: Feldschlösschen was the first result for a Google search for "Swiss Beer" :)

Top-Gear-24: looks like I'm not going to beat you by 2 months :)

Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut, it's just that I got so exited :P

I do the same as well.  It's good to get the juices flowing with things like this. Sure it's a bummer it wasn't to be but it's not like it will never be.  I've jacked myself up on a few things recently which for me expands my "vision" of what could and will actually happen, eventually.

Now you can start making plans for a longer stay over there, and I can only speak for myself, but I think planning a vacation like that already gives me that "holiday feeling".

P.S. Do any of the Swiss members here know the Swiss knife law, I mean, what tools can I take with me (Swisstool and Swischamp I'm already sure of, but what about my Surge or Wave ?  Are there any rules about OHO knives ? Or any other rules I should know about ?).

Nope in '08 they changed it so everybody can carry the Soldier 08. Problem is, you can't transport those knives through Germany

Illegal are only: Butterfly knifes, anything with a straight double edged blade between 6-32 cm. No full automatic knives, especially if the blade comes out of the front (power-assisted is legal).
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Thanks for the info my friend  :salute:.

I guess I'll leave my OHO knives at home (except maybe my '08 Soldier ...  :P).

Actually, it is no problem to transport Victorinox OHO knives through Germany, as long as you don't have them in immediately reach of your own. Just put it in a suitcase (or something similar) in the car boot and everything is fine.

One of my favourite bands (Nerve, with best-drummer-ever Jojo Mayer, who happens to be Swiss) just announced the dates for their European tour. I bought a ticket for their gig in Zürich next month. So I'm actually going this time :)

Cool. How long do you plan in staying in Switzerland?  Are you going to try for your original plan?

We're on our way, left at 6AM. Already done 400 km. And so far my daughter has behaved herself perfectly which was unexpected (she doesn't enjoy being in a car).

So it's finally going to happen, your trip .

Enjoy it mate, Switzerland is a beautiful place, and for some strange reason they have quite a lot of Victorinox/Wenger goodies over there ...  :pok:

However, I should remind you of one thing ...

Thanks! We're staying in Bassersdorf near Zürich. My wife and daughter are still there right now while I'm at EXIL waiting for Jojo Mayer/Nerve to perform :) It's the reason we took this trip.

Not enough time to visit Ibach unfortunately. Next time!

I just chatted with Jojo a bit. Which means a lot to me.

Bump :)

Our trip to Zurich in 2016 was great (but short), last year we did the same thing (but Berlin, Germany) and right now we are en route to Bern.
Same plan again: three nights in a hotel, some sightseeing and a Jojo Mayer/Nerve concert.
