Alox colors- shades
on: May 21, 2015, 03:59:10 AM
So with all the talk of alox colors, I realized many of the knives when put side by side, often seem a different shade. Now I know some of the knives are meant to be different- I have standard blue and light blue. Some people talk of dark green vs olive, standard greens and then the new bright greens. Over the course of years do the standard colors seem to change? Blacks - reds or other.
I'm just getting into the color game.

Very nice indeed!

Where did you get your nice storage case?  How big a Vic will it handle?

Regarding shades I wonder if some differences exist due to:
  • special order to match company logo color
  • variations due to anodizing process (chemical mix, age of chemicals, temperature, timing)

And then there are the shield and cross variants.  Sometimes the red shield clashes IMO such as apocalypse green or orange.  I've seen gold with and without the red shield and I prefer without.
PM me if you want one of my kidneys for your SOG TiNi multitool.

OK, both my kidneys.

I think you may be right about the anodizing giving a different hue over time. I know I've seen several pictures of what should be the same color for many knifes and they are not exact.

Case - http://www.amazon.com/United-Cutlery-UC1338-Pocket-Storage/dp/B001CZBFHE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1432207562&sr=8-1&keywords=united+cutlery+case
The copper SAK in my pic is a carver - so 93mm knife will fit no problem.
