World No Tobacco Day, 31st May
on: May 31, 2016, 02:53:01 PM
World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is observed around the world every year on May 31. It is intended to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption around the globe. The day is further intended to draw attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to negative health effects, which currently lead to nearly 6 million deaths each year worldwide, including 600,000 of which are the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke.[1] The member states of the World Health Organization (WHO) created World No Tobacco Day in 1987. In the past twenty years, the day has been met with both enthusiasm and resistance around the globe from governments, public health organizations, smokers, growers, and the tobacco industry.

I hope it can finally quit for good soon. I can almost certainly say I will die because of them if I do not and to be completely honest I will most likely die from the damage that has already been done by them. Sad, but true. It's no ones fault, but my own.

Sorry for being morbid.

The issue is that most of us know that smoking, drinking, eating processed and fatty food, not exercising and so on, slowly kills us, but, we just choose not to do anything about it.

Long term danger always seems less threatening than short term, especially when we include an element of chance. Everybody knows they shouldn't eat this or drink that, but I think the value of small improvements is often overlooked. It is much better not smoking than smoking a pack a day, but it is better smoking half a pack a day than a whole pack as well. A little better is preferable to no better at all, same with any other bad habit or lack of good habit.

"Perfect is the enemy of good" is a tired cliché, but there is a reason clichés come to exist.
