:mail: My KF4 beater arrived today, and despite the ebay description saying that the "handles show some wear", it's virtually new! There's just one scratch on one of the scales, just light, hasn't even dented the aluminium, otherwise it's like my NIB one.Tools seem unused, not even any scratches on the blades.

As a bonus, it has the "USA" drilled out, a variation I didn't already have, so I'm really pleased :)

I used to come here a lot.

I finally got around to stopping at a tool store that I have been meaning to check out yesterday.  I didn't expect much but when I got to their MT case I was surprised to see 3 Kf4's, New In Packaging, hanging from one of the pegs.  I bought one yesterday and today I was in the same area so I stopped in and bought the other two.  I'm keeping one for myself, one is SPF but the third one is available.  If anyone in the US is interested in it PM me.  Here is a picture of the one I bought yesterday but the other two look exactly the same.  Brand new in packaging.

The KF4 is probably my favourite legal EDC tool to carry. It really does cover the bases and would be perect with scissors IMHO. I would happily sacrifice the serrated blade, or have a combi one instead as I usually carry a dedicated knife anyway.

It's just right for pocket carry too, without excess bulk or weight  :tu:

I am not a fan of yellow in general however, so this broke my usual avoidance of it!

Think of it as either Gold or what Leatherman refers to the color as "Solar Yellow".   :D  I guess the word Solar makes it sound a more macho yellow.   :D

I believe my membership card is in order  :D

If they ever did bring it back it would have to include scissors. I believe its lack of scissors was its eventual downfall  :-\  I would like to see a pocketclip as well :D

But the important question is(even with the membership cards, protest walks and telethons) will Leatherman put the KF4 BACK into production?

Due to the mainly male population over here, may I suggest to get some girls to nude-in for us? No, no not for me, I just think that it would make more of an impact at LM headquarters. Just thinking "what would catch my attention if people start protesting at our headquarter?" you know.

The KF4 does look like the best juice offering.  LM has this problem of not thinking outside the box.  That's why they discontinued the KF4.  They do other dumb things like restricting bit drivers to the Wave/surge/charge/skele line.  I want a traditional model with a bit driver in it!  Maybe I will start a thread on that.

Don't think outside the box? You're 'aving a larf :D

Leatherman practically invented the genre of the multitool, and have become an industry giant, despite not existing before 1983 - must be all those dumb ideas ;)

Apparently, the KF4 just didn't sell as well as the others (which surprises me), but the public voted with their wallets! The bit driver thing is about making you part with your cash I reckon, not so dumb either :D

They were better when Tim was still working.  If the bit driver thing is about money, they certainly could up the price of the models they put it in.  I may have mis-spoke when I said they don't think outside the box, but they do seem to compartmentalize their tools so that each one has the perfect elements, it's just impossible to get the perfect combo.  This can be said of all tool manufacturers.  They really should pay a little bit more attention to this forum and others like it.  Real users like repair techs and the like don't really want a can opener on their MT, yet LM refuses to take it off any of their full size models (Skele-style tools excluded).  The little bit driver, while useful in some applications, just sits there for most of the time taking up space that an awl could fill.  Look at the fuse, there is that ridiculously thin lanyard ring(that seems to be absolutely necessary  ??? ) and a washer taking up space that could hold a file.  It's things like that that drive me nuts.  You don't see near as much wasted space on a Vic multi.  LM hit a goldmine with the PST, original wave, and supertool lines as well as the KF4.  why they felt the need to fill their juice line with corkscrews is beyond me.  They should go back to their roots and listen to the people that use their tools.
