Hi Allan, thank you very much for the link, that has helped alot. I now think that I have a 5th Generation Multi-Plier from what I can gather from J-sews post. I am really pleased with it. I have a Flik and have always been dissapointed with Gerber, but this Multi-Plier seems to be of superior quality.

Not that I'm an expert at all but that's certainly a Multiplier rather than a MP600.  MP600 is actually quite a bit bigger than the Multiplier,  the Multiplier is closer in size to the MP400 (as seen in stack's second picture).

As a fan of both the MP600 and 400 I'd love to get my hands on a Multiplier at some point. :tu:

Thanks for the info Gareth. I am really pleased with the Multiplier, just picked it up today. Its certainly of a higher build quality than my Flik. I am begining to understand why some people rate Gerber quite highly. I was always surprised when I would have people comment on my videos how good Gerber were. Never seen it myself but this Multiplier has given me the impression that when Gerber were first doing MTs they did it alot better than present.

Yeah I wasn't blown away with the Flick or the Diesel myself (though I wouldn't knock someone for liking them).

Yeah true, I had a Diesel for a couple of days before I got rid. Hey they aren't that bad, I do like the scissors on the Flik to be fair.

That was my first multi tool, though I had the needle nose version. Was an excellent tool.

Great first MT you had. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of this Gerber Multiplier.

That's a real nice one you got there Colin, congrats! It looks to be in pretty fine shape too. Do you think it was even used all that much? :)

Thank you Joe. Well I purchased it from a lady who served in the army from the mid 90's onwards. Looking at the tool the knife blades are pretty dull and the philips driver seems to be damaged. I will put up some 'Super Macro' pics of the tools  :) But overall its in pretty good condition. Even better after a clean up. I didn't know when looking at it what model it was but I took a chance and I think I have a cracker after the research and help from other members of MT.O.  :)

Yeah, the older Gerbers definitely had some quality to them. Nowadays, it is hit and miss with them.

I have exactly the same Gerber in my collection (the only Gerber I own).  I bought it around '97 if my memory serves me well ...  The sheath is also the same, only difference is the color of the text on mine, mine is only in 2 kinds of yellow (no red or blue).

Here's a pic of my Gerber (with a couple of other tools of mine, can't find a pic with only the Gerber on it, shame on me  :-[).  I've never used mine, bought it because I had store credit (again, shame on me  :-[).

 ;)

If you can find them, take a look at Carolina knife & Tool Company. Carolina is Fisker's budget line, and they tend to produce some of the older non-locking models from Gerber's past under their name. Likewise, see if you can find Winchester branded ones, such as the fistherman, another older design by Gerber, but at a budget price point.

Chako, thanks my friend. So Fiskars is using there other brands to sell the older version Gerber's? And at a budget price, hmm, sounds pretty exciting. I will need to be on the lookout for the Carolina and Winchester brands.

Great shot of your Multipliers Allan, very cool. After getting my hands on the Multiplier I know have the ambition of getting another, perhaps the needlenose pliers.

Thanks to this forum I now know I have a 5th generation multi plier I have had it since about 14-15 (00-01) I always have it in my tackle box when I go catfishing at night. She needs a little dremel work and some oil but works like a champ.

I've gotten my hands on a Multiplier since this thread last came up.  Cracking MT I'd say and mine certainly gets carried.  Welcome to the forum Will. :hatsoff:
