Half of a HOBO kit.
on: August 04, 2015, 07:26:32 AM
Can someone tell me about this tool?  I bought it at an auction.  It appears to be a legitimate SAK Hobo kit .  Unforturnately, I only got half of the Hobo kit.  The half I got has great design and crafting. ???

Yap, you only got half of it.
I'm 90% sure it's Chinese... that bump on the scissors is a dead giveaway...

A number of European firms made Hobo/Picnic knives (shown are a couple of Richartz and an Aitor). To the best of my knowledge Victorinox never made one. One of the members here, I Can Fix That, has an old Wenger Hobo (top). Believe it  was imported by Abercromby & Fitch. Very rare.

Thanks for all three of the responses.  I believe it is not a SAK after conferring with the Multitool.Org experts.
The pictures of the Hobo Kits are excellent and shows a lot of generousity from each responder.  Again Thanks alot.

As far as I know SIGG is the only Swiss company that produces HOBO knifes (Apart from that long gone, obscure Wenger).

I quite like it, as it splits into 3 parts:

It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

That SIGG knife is the same as the KaBar version and other versions, probably Chinese made but branded by whoever pays. I have seen at least 3 different brands on that same knife now, including this SIGG model.

That does not surprise me, its dirt cheap (== unlikely to be produced in Switzerland). Also SIGG does produce some of their bottles in China (I think all the Stainless, the Aluminum ones are produced in Switzerland).

These are not that bad but the springs are somewhat weak.

Have another Hobo marked 'Women in the Army' in the four official Swiss languages. Recall reading some place that they were a commemorative made by one of the Swiss national arsenals, but the only markings are stainless/rostfrei.
