The rebar is really working out. So far it's mostly all pliers to pull out staples and wires, and the scissors. Oddly enough, most people strongly dislike the Wave scissors in general but I've found them immensely useful.

The pioneer is an unsung hero this week but got out of the regular carry spot on Thursday since I've dulled it up.

My general carry this week has been - Classic, Pioneer and SOG SP2 at work and Bantam and Rebar combo for the theater festival volunteering. When the Pioneer got in need of some TLC, it and SOG went out and in came the Farmer which meant the Classis also saw primary carry duties (since the Farmer prints more)

How is all this comming 50ft? You mentioned you were still trying to get rid of all this stuff in another thread?

Also, I get the feeling that you probably have a box or two of tools you havent mentioned yet...

Honestly? Not great!

I was hoping to get more pics taken today, but have spent most of the day catching up on sleep  ::) I have almost decided what I'm doing with a lot of stuff, but keep going to and fro on others. :dwts: I recently made a list of around 40 multitools and SAK's to sell, and every time I looked at the list I crossed something off and wrote something else in it's place  :bnghd:

I really need to get my arse in gear and get something moving....

So, after much deliberation, and 1000 posts later (my 11k post  :ahhh) what did I decide to keep? More than I initially intended to. Much more. Probably a few surprises in there too....

As well as moving lots of stuff to the for sale area, I got a couple of new items in too. Here's the keepers as they stand so far (later change is more than possible) :)

Large Frame

In the category that some call heavy duty (which I think is actually very misleading), the keepers are quite diverse.

TurboDiesel: No surprise here. The Diesel is a very versatile, ergonomic and capable tool, particularly when paired with the bit adaptor. As this mod also incorporates a blade exchanger, it's abilities are increased even further

Schrade Vise Grips 6LC: Kept primarily for the locking plier capability, though the onboard tools are a bonus of course

SOG S61 Powerlock: Probably the first surprise, particularly how bad it fared in terms of ergonomics in my thread HERE. However, these do still offer powerful compound leverage pliers, and sometimes that's what's needed to get the job done. They haven't got a full tool compliment at the minute. But when fully loaded, this will be going in my main toolbag with the 6LC mentioned above.

DEsTroyer Mod: This will also be going in the main tool bag. Again, there isn't a full tool load at the minute as I poached a few parts for other stuff. I will however be building this up with a complimentary loadout to the S61 as they will be kept together.

Gerber ProScout MP600: This is an older model with the diamond file and awl rather than the blade exchanger. The fate of this one is undecided at present, but is likely to be a donor for the DEsTroyer and other mods/repairs.

Worth noting some of the tools I have tried and decided to let go in this category include Gerber Grappler, Leatherman Core and ST300 and the Swisstool CS Plus. I'll update on the other tool ranges later

The Powerlock is one of those tools that for me has no place in regular carry/use, but there are occasional times when it's the right tool for the job.

So far thats looking pretty good Al, you managed to bring it down to 5 tools in this category.

When are you going to start giving away your furniture on here? I could use some new dressers... :D

On a more serious note, I cant wait to see what you chose to keep in the mid size category, as I agree with you in thinking this is where multis shine

I think postage might be cost prohibitive on the furniture  :P :D

Mid sized tools.... yeah, that was the tricky one. I think I'll probably need to do more thinning out at a later date, as this was the toughest area to decide upon. I actually need to go and get the box to remember everything that has been kept so far in that group. I certainly haven't managed to get them down to just five yet....

Yeah, I grouped together everything from Wave downwards, covering anything that's too large/heavy for carry on a keyring.

Heading on for 2k post later, and this project is still continuing  :ahhh

Many tools have left me to find new homes across the globe. Some of them got there quickly, and some went on a world tour first care of the postal services of various countries

The tools that are currently listed in my sig line, are the hot favourites for be retained for the foreseeable future. There are however still A LOT of items which need to find new homes. I'll try and wake the sales thread up a little once the festive craziness has abated, and the postal services globally are not as frenetic.

In the meantime, I have picked up some yellow scales for my Climber Small, which originally had found a spot in the "to be sold" pile, before it got a reprieve. After the change of clothes it got paired with my KF4 which I was also considering selling, and this has become a bit of a winning combination.

I generally don't like the Juice line up, and have expressed this many times since my original CS4 failed to impress, back before I was even a member of this forum. It has many design and manufacturing shortcomings which let it down, but despite that, this combo WORKS!!!

The Climber Small pretty much has everything I need for most days. As many of you will know, I had quite a liking for the Wenger Traveller and ended up accumulating 10 different varieties of that knife. The Victorinox scissors won me back over though, and part of me is tempted to fit the file from a Sportsman to get this knife nearer the Traveller format.

The KF4 pairs better with this knife than any other tool that springs to mind. It's compact, has very little overlap/duplication, and provides virtually everything I might need that the Climber Small doesn't offer. Yes, the flat drivers still bite, yes, the printed rule on the scales is about as durable as toilet paper in a thunderstorm, yes, the Phillips is a little stumpy and the main gripping area of the pliers is impeded by the wire cutter. Despite that, for several days this week, this combo (both tools) have sat in the watch pocket on a pair of jeans. Together these tools work like a charm.

Getting rid of the surplus tools hasn't been an easy task, and I have tried not to rush things when it came to making the decisions either. The combo I just mentioned is one of the rewards of taking the time to be 100% sure before taking the leap. I have no regrets about parting with any of the tools which have already left me either.

The decision I am currently looking at, is one which may shock/surprise a lot of you who are familiar with my approach to tools. First though, I maybe ought to explain a little about how I view my "stashed" tools....

When I choose what tools are going to live in a toolbag, or a FAK, or glovebox, or bike bag (and so on, and so on), I choose tools which I am likely to want to spontaneously choose for a regular days carry. I don't carry a Wave everyday due to the locking blades, for example, but I do want the option of being able to grab it if it suits the day's agenda. As such, this tool cannot (in my mind) be stashed in one of the key areas, as choosing to carry it would leave that area devoid of it's appointed tool, and there's a good chance I might forget to put it back.

The DEsTroyer mod is a good example for a stashed tool. Those big shears are not something I'd have regular call for, but could really saved the day at some point if they are in my main toolbag, and I've had to grab that to deal with some crisis or project at home, at a friend's, or for family.

So on to the surprise topic.  I had decided to put a SOG Powerlock in the bag. Those of you who know my thought on handle splay will realise, thing decision is out of character, but I though that compound leverage might really save to day sometime. I kept thinking however about the internal tools, and how they can be quite limiting. It it really worth keeping this multitool for that one function? For more powerful gripping, I could always use adjustable pipe wrench with longer handles. Maybe buying some compound leverage wire cutters would make more sense. There was still virtue in ahving a third pliers based MT in the bag though, alongside the DEsTroyer and Schrade LC6

There is however another item which was going to be sold. I didn't see it as a good user for me for well documented reasons. I wasn't looking forward to shipping it though as it was going to be particularly awkward and expensive. That item is the 30th anniversary ST300 and Micra set. Head to head with the Powerlock, despite the handles being somewhat large for my hands, on any given task, the SOG's splay will be even more cumbersome. All to this the far more capable internal tools, the indexable cutters could be reground for more efficient cutting, and the Micra would offer a sensible pair of smaller scissors and smaller tools to compliment the heftier items in the toolbag. Besides which, the nice leather and glass case would make a nice storage unit for my cufflinks, tie pins, pocket watches, and such like.

This decision is not yet finalised, but is currently making more sense than the previous alternative

Ummm.... at this moment in time, I don't need to get rid of stuff quite as urgently as I did before. It still needs to be done though. I'm just grateful of the chance to be a little more thoughtful in my decision making.

Well at this moment in time, I still have it. I tried offering it up as the donation draw prize last month, but the target wasn't met.
