(Image removed from quote.)

This is one area lacking in any MT. Cutting off the extra piece like shown is easy but cutting off a heavy duty zip tie that is tightly wound is not easy because you cannot get the plier cutters or a blade for that matter underneath. If you got a tip on how to do this please let me know. Three will be less cursing

Normally I would use the tip of pliers to crush & destroy the ratchet housing, after that the zip tie would fall apart.
Micra would work well too.

Day 13: Working on my SOG tools, needed 1/4" drive and hex bits, 45505 could not help, but its tweezers was handy for picking up small washers and stuff. Sorry no pictures.

 :salute:

I was thinking about this, and I think this might be one of the few places where the SOG Crosscut is actually better than the Micra. ALSO, the Style CS has very similar scissors to the Micra, but better ergonomics for hard cutting tasks. Any of those three tools will get this done no problem, though.

Week 2 Report:
Craftsman 45505 is another very fine example of keychain tool.
Aside from its physical limitation, it is very function.
A good set of pliers, all locking implements, sharp blade, long drivers, will provide convenience to your daily life.
You must wonder, how does it compare to Leatherman Squirt?
Short answer is, 45505 falls short.
Even through 45505 has relatively strong pliers, but the handles are arrow and sharp at the ends, altogether makes difficult to get a good grip to use its pliers. In contrast Squirt has wide, rounded handles, plus the pliers are spring loaded, that really takes the cake. I can comfortably give Squirt a firm squeeze but I cant say the same for 45505.

For the 3rd week of October, I will be using this Kershaw Select Fire.
Is it a Multitool? Well it depends on how you look at it, if SAK are considered as knife base MT then the Select Fire definitely fall into the same category.

Right out from the box the 3.4 inch 8cr13mov blade is razor sharp, solid strong lockup, nothing to worry about there.

I am so dumb  >:(  Why could not I think of that. The best out of the box solution I could come up with is to file off the zip tie which would take an eternity. Thanks!

Great info, as soon as I get hold of a SOG Crosscut I will do a shoot out with the Micra, Style CS and Crosscut and see how they perform.

In America, it is comment to have this kind of simple locks on doors for bedrooms and restrooms, inside residential homes, it is not for security but prevent someone open the door at the wrong moment.

CAK: Third Report: Scissors
From here on in - Is where it starts to getting interesting  :D

The scissors are my favourite and most used tool on a SAK - And of course SAK scissors are extrordinarily well designed and manufactured
- So I knew the scissors on the CAK  would be a big problem
- And they are!!
  • The scisssor blades are not properly riveted together, and there is massive wobble in the blades
  • The spring is ineffective. Every time you cut, the blade slips past the spring - And due to the loose blades - one blade goes past the other the wrong way - See pic - This is really inconvenient
  • The blades are very thin, I'd say half the thickness of a SAK scissor - (Sorry don't have a micrometer - This is one reason the spring does not work), so dig into your fingers - well they would if you could use them  :o
  • Their saving grace is they are reaosnably sharp - But the scissors don't really work due to the above - So this does not help too much
I cannot get these scissors to cut anything really  :twak:
Definitely not my finger nails, not plastic bags (eg to open a packet), you can get them to cut paper (actually pretty well) - But you have to do it in one direction only, line everything up carefully, and apply the right sideways pressure to keep the blades together - So yes you can get it to work on paper - Is it convenient? Easy to use? Effective? .... NO!! Would regularly want use it? .......ever?  ??? no way  :pok:

So this is a big fail. :(
Just like Lynn - I am trying hard to make this thing work - So I will peen the scissor rivet a little to see if this improves things - I think it might - I'll let you know

So in Squirt vs CAK Challenge - At last the Squirt has opened its account It is now 5-1 to the knock off!!
And of course 6-0 for SAK vs CAK

So how is the CAK going to fare in the next tests? ??? - Will it get better? Or worse? ......

Stay tuned for the next reports: i) drivers, ii) Mystery tool iii) Final thoughts and conclusion
Lots more interesting and amusing tests and results to come .......  :o :D

Very interesting looking MT. I got a Spark brand lighter based MT from Walmart for $5.88 a while back and it sucks big time. The knife does not stay open and just flops. Totally useless. This looks better.
