If the KF4 came back...
on: August 10, 2008, 07:48:45 PM
This is following up on the discussion in this thread.

I allowed two votes, cause some of us might be happy with more than one version. :)

I'd be happiest with the original or with scissors in place of the serrated blade...

I went for original as it would be nice to have a true KF4 return and other.  The KF4 IMO would be perfect if it had scissors instead of the awl and saw, but as I like an awl, I would like to see one of the flat headed screwdrivers changed into an awl.  :)

I think that would be a great idea. The medium screwdriver really doesn't have much use IMO, though I have used it on occasion for prying. :-\

Scissors and no serrated blade. Don't like that at all.

How about you take away the saw and awl, add scissors, and then mate your KF4 with a Farmer for the most non-redundant, compact, and useful EDC's know to man.

Sounds good to me. :) You'd still have to plain blades though... :D

What if the pliers were spring loaded like the Squirt P4? Would that be an improvement or no?

And that's a problem? At least they are different styles. Make one a beater and one razor sharp.

How about if you instead dropped 2 of the flatheads for scissors and kept everything else as is? Then you could match it with almost any SAK you wanted - Bantam, Cadet, Soldier, etc. At worst, you'd have a redundant tool or two, but you'd never be short anything.

Actually, that would make the KF4 a much better stand alone tool too...

Nope, not a problem. :D Just about the only redundancy I could think between the two. But you're still right, the blade shapes and grinds are way different.

I think I'd like spring-loaded pliers too. They definitely grow on you, especially on a smaller tool.

And really, whats wrong with having another blade? :)

Absolutely nothing. :D I've ruined edges before accidentally (once in the first couple hours of a 4 day trip) and was more than happy for a backup...

I'd be willing to lose the saw and awl but why? Couldn't you put the awl with the scissors like the useless can opener is now?

Yeah, you could. :) It would mean making uneven handles like the rest of the Juice line. Not a big deal I guess, but its one of the little details I always liked about the KF4... :)

Me too.

Return of the original Kf4 would be great, but an improved Kf4 with both scissors and awl would be even better.

I voted for dropping the saw and awl for scissors,a KF4 in that configuration paired with a Farmer would be an unbeatable combo.

I don't need scissors or a plain blade on a Plier Multi since I will always carry a SAK.  For this reason, I voted for the original configuration and the one with scissors instead of a plain blade.

I wondered if some folks would like that option... When I first bought my KF4, I would probably wished for that option most, since I was into carrying a "normal" plain edge knife. Since then I've gotten used to just carrying an MT, but I'd still have a soft spot for such a tool. :)
