58mm Scissors
on: August 31, 2015, 01:32:04 AM
Has anyone swapped out a corkscrew for a set of 58mm scissors on an 84?

I was having a rough look a moment ago and it does not look impossible. Obviously you would need a liner for that side without the corkscrew cut out......

Interested to hear what if anything has been done. A single layer 84mm with just the knife, combo tool and scissors sounds quite flexible to me as a knife.

Thanks,

Voetsak

Yes there is a pic around here somewhere of someone who did it.  Looks like it fits fine, but kind of awkward to use.

My real motivation is 2 scaleless waiters and a classic with a broken knife blade spring.

I hate throwing stuff away.

Thanks Syph

Hmm,

Worth a shot just for fun.

Now I am thinking two side by side blades (ala original Gak). Maybe one stockman type and one normal or a sheepsfoot. And that gives to slots on the rear one for the Ill fitting scissors and one for the small blade and the nail file - side by side. There would be 2 combo tools though so one would have to be ground down into something else. Perhaps both the full liners could go outboard and then some cadet style scales......

It sounds like a disaster.......

But a fun way to kill a morning!

With a little fettling it works!!! The scissors just needed to move back a little so that they didn't overlap the edge of the knife, the spring had to be ground and a half stop detenty thing was ground into the scissors so that they hold 90 nicely.

Behold the 84mm Ghetto Golfer!

Next it needs brass liners and some black recruit scales and it will be an awesome little thing.

I like that.  :tu:

What have you found to be the best way to hold that thing when you're using the scissors?

They are fairly comfortable like this. Quite usable I guess but not the most natural position.
