I'm not 100% ruling out ever finding a soulmate, but the chances of me finding someone who can tolerate me and who I can tolerate in return are pretty slim 

As I usually think of myself, I'm  neither loving nor lovable, lol 


And this thread is growing more quickly than I thought  lol.

I'm sometimes "bothered" as some people put it, then I'm thinking that God knows what to do and at the whole current stage of my life too many people depend on me, so I wouldn't be able to really devote myself to a relationship (because I usually give everything and anything I can to it, lol), so it wouldn't work out that well.

So then you'd have to agree if you met the right person it was also from God and you shouldn't try to outhink Him. Devoting your life to other people is nice but it's nicer if you get what you need first, then you can be more effective. You have to live your own life or at some point what you can actually give or do for anybody else is limited. You'll get whatever help from Heaven you need to make your life good and the people you love and care about, too.

I've never met anyone I want to spend the rest of my life with. It really is that simple.

Same here but where it always seems to fall down for me is the part about realizing it while there's still time

Hmmm dating, nope not for me at the moment, I'm also recently single after 12 years and boy has dating and expectations changed out of all reasonable proportions!

It could just be me but some people are so shallow and vacuous I'm amazed that they manage to do anything.
For example, I don't  have a car at the moment, I'm using a leased van from work (some will remember what happened to my Audi). People see the van and makes assumptions, which are all incorrect, but they make them anyway. There's more depth in a toilet bowl!

If I find someone then great, if I don't then I don't think I'll lose any sleep over it. Although I'm going to remain hopeful but I'm not looking.

I still have regular time with my son and bizarrely I'm getting on better with the ex than I have in years.

Oh and yes a great return post Michael

It reminds me of the saying/wisdom, on why women who smoke are great- the general idea being that if they can put that disgusting object, the cigarette, in their mouth, then they will not have objections to... -- you get the hint....

I for one was more than happy for being single and doing all the unspeakable things the Internet is too afraid and disgusted to post... but hey... I really really wanted a baby so I guess I had to take the whole package with it
