Fenix E21 problems.
on: September 12, 2015, 06:38:44 AM
My Fenix E21 bit the dust....... well kind of. Its acting weird and I am hoping someone might be able to help me fix it if at all possible. I will try to explain what it is doing. When I start to depress the tail switch the light will come on in momentary, but once the switch "clicks" the light is not producing any light. When I depress the switch again (which would be to turn it off) it comes on momentarily and when it "clicks" the light is off again. Any ideas?

Sounds like something wrong inside the switch itself.  Can you get it out and pull it apart to see if it is fixable ?

It seems like the inside of the switch is dirty (or broken..).
when you press it there is enough force/pressure to make contact (cut through the dirt).
when you let it go the force applied by the internal spring only is not enough to maintain contact.

you should be able to remove the switch and its cover and clean and lubricate it (with contact spray e.g. Kontakt 61)

I had similar problems with my LD20 - turns out the LED/circuit board holder had come slightly loose inside the head. Maybe the same construction on the E21? Unscrew the head from the body and inside there's a ring with two holes - I managed to wedge the tips of a pair of needle nose pliers in there and tighten the while thing back down, worked fine after that.

I fixed it and you where exactly correct as this is what was wrong. I pulled the back end of the light off and noticed the metal ring with the two holes. I found SAK pliers worked the best and screwed it tight... or so I thought. I guess it is reverse threaded as I loosened it and it fell apart into 5-6 pieces. Put it back together and screwed it in counter clockwise until tight. Works perfectly now.  :tu:

Glad you worked it out - don't remember the left hand thread, but it was a few years ago I fixed mine. Happy to help. :tu:

Exactly what I was going to say. I believe they are reverse threads.
