Alright, it's time for my second mod, which is another attempt at a OHO Sak-like tool. This time, I chose to modify my Sidekick, which hasn't seen much love since I came into possession of my Rebar.
Its a pretty standard Plierless Sidekick, with one exception. Its got 91mm Vic scissors!

Making the scissors fit took a fair bit of grinding with a Dremel (no drill press for me!) To make the 2.5mm hole into a (roughly) 3/16" pivot hole, but once it fit on the Sidekick's pivots, I was quite satisfied!

The scissors replaced the useless can opener, and was put between the serrated blade and the file/small screwdriver. On the blade end I placed the screwdrivers, which are sadly loose until I find the second tool spring :(.

Biggest qualm (after the missing spring) is that the spring on the vic scissors causes it to pop out of the tool, unless the scissors are wedged between the large screwdrivers. Easy to open, a bit inconvenient to close. Also, the scissors overextend a bit when opened, but this does not effect operation at all.

Overall, im quite pleased with how this mod went, but I still have a couple plans yet for this knife (like finding that smurfing spring).

Kam, Babs, Evil etc, not to forget Metro among many others who have done some sweet tools.

It looks like a great part of this hobby.

Finally finished it! (Thanks to eddie1115 for sending me a spare backspring, as I managed to lose my second one ::) )

So whats new?

All the tools lock in place! :ahhh I added eddie's backspring piece to the former pliers side, and cut slots with a dremel for the "wings" of the spring into the side of the tool, just like on the other side (you can see both cutouts in second and third pictures. One under the clip, the other just above the lock.) I also cut out a square section where the open pliers used to rest near the handles, to allow the backspring to flex when the tools open and close. On the lock side I had to cut out a corner to make room for the spring.

One of the major ergonomic issues with the Sidekick (plierless or not) was the sharp outside corner if you reach into the pocket for anything besides the knife. So, I rounded the sharp edges there (and everywhere else too). This knife is now much more pocket (and hand) friendly.

I also swapped the tools around. One of the problems I had with the original layout was that the scissors would fall out unless wedged between the drivers. I swapped them so that if they did fall out, the tool could still be easily removed from  my pocket. However, the scissors stay in place all on their own now! I dont really know why, but im thrilled about it!

I'm very pleased with this revision, and I am happy to call it complete! Well almost. I have a S30V Wave blade that I plan to put in as soon as I find an appropriate bushing. Its going to be pretty.

OK that is awesome :o I really  :like: that knife and it has way more utility than anything LM offers  :tu:

Why do they keep missing out on doing stuff like this themselves

Some of their older discontinued knives had more features than anything they have out now as well

Kudos to you sLaughtermed :salute: I would love to do the same to mine in the future but for now it is nice to know you have one and it can be done

Thanks mate. This has probably been my most involved (and evolved) mod so far, and I havent really been happy with it until the most recent iteration (where I modded the Sidekick saw to lock into the spring retainer). But ive been carrying it a lot since, and I think I will carry it even more once that s30v blade makes it in.
