CRKT M-16(or maybe 21), worth it?
on: October 22, 2015, 05:49:44 AM
So I went to Lowes to return a power cord I ended up not needing, got 20 bucks. Stopped by the knife and multi section as usual and saw there was a hook that said CRKT and was marked 19.99, last time I was in there I'm pretty sure I remember it being one of the Ms though which it was I forget. Would it be worth grabbing either for 20 bucks? Any opinions on them? I've always sort of wanted a CRKT and just haven't gotten around to snagging one yet.

This knife has been in the CRKT lineup for decades.

It's a solid knife and usually sells for $35.00-$38.00.It certainly is worth $20.00.

You have to ask yourself; What can you buy for $20.00?

Go for it bother.

If you want to explore different makers and styles then go for it.

There are many models of M16/20 so it depends what you are looking at; at that price I would expect the low end.
Personally I don't like the low end Zytel M16/20 ; they usually have AUS-6 Steel and chisel grinds but later ones have acceptable AUS-8 or 8CR13MoV

The M16 is a classic functional knife that's been around for quite a while.  Almost the entire lineup now uses one of the 8Cr steels except the ones that come in packs with a headlamp.  I think the biggest complaint has always been the Auto-Lawks system but I've never found it to be a problem, it's not hard to use at all with a little practice (which can be said for any knife).

M16s are great budget folders. I carry a smaller  zytel model (m16-03kz I think?), and i really like it. For $20, its a steal! If you do decide to get one, I vote that you go for a fully plain edged spear point model.

I bought one for 29.99, one of my first ever Gun Show purchases ever. I thing JBW1 has it now.

They are great folders, super light, and I love the blade shape

But the "extra lock" thing is useless. Absolutely terrible. I removed it.

X2

Especially with the new Automatic Deploy Kydex sheaths.

All you do it pull the knife out and it deploys the blade and locks it, ready to go!
