Advice needed on a quartz clock movement
on: August 20, 2008, 10:40:50 PM
I have a large 1920's electric banjo clock and the motor is dead with no hope of getting it rewound.

I am looking to replace the electric "guts"  with a quartz movement that chimes !

Any suggestions for a manufacturer to use or stay away from and a good SOS for the quartz movement?

Any other suggestions greatly appreciated.

TIA
Why do I carry a 45 ?
Because they don't make a 46 !

I would stay away from any chiming quarts movement as they sound tinny and awful with a tiny speaker.

You can Google both Merritts Antiques and S LaRose to see what is available.

If your old movement is a popular make, then a new motor might be available from them.

You can order new hands to fit your dial at the same time but it is best to keep the original hands but be aware that a bit of fitting is involved.

As you seem to be the man to know :) , can you advise me of where I can get a good deal on a 24 hour quartz movement?

Not quite sure of what you mean. I assume military time. You can try this  http://www.klockit.com/products/dept-157__sku-CCCCQ.html  They also have military dials.

I think what he means is a movement that cycles once per day, not the twice per day cycle of a 12 hour clock.

Interesting link, they've some fun stuff. Thanks Richard.  I'm not too amoured with placing an order and then having to wait from them to contact you with what the shipping will be though.
I could really do with finding a good UK or EU shop so that I don't have to worry about customs/tax.

Yep, I'm after a movement that goes round once per day, as I'm a bit crazy idiosyncratic like that :D
