Strength of Inline Phillips
on: October 27, 2015, 10:19:00 AM
Hi everyone,
In your experience
1. Are there meaningful differences between the strengths of these Phillips drivers:
Old style (longer) Phillips, as on Explorers with grey magnifiers.
Newer (shorter) Phillips .I think the steel is said to be stronger.
Long Cybertool type arrangement.
2. Are all the above capable of more torque than the back layer Phillips ?

Thanks in advance !

Let me start by saying I love the backside Phillips!

I've got both the long and short inline drivers, and my observation is that the head of the short Phillips is less likely to deform under heavy use.

I do like the cybertool driver, but,it's rubbish at getting to deeply resessed screws, and I tend to find the bit holder likes to float out while using the driver
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

I also like the backside Philips even though the consencus seems to be it´s weak. I think part of that is the T-handle that allows to easily put more torque than one thinks is applied.

About the two different length in-line philips I doubt the difference in strength will be relevant. I doubt the weak point is the shank but rather the attachement  to the pivot.

I much prefer to have longer reach on the philips than on the maginifying glass so I like the older one, with magnifier made of glass. It also has higher magnification and doesn´t scratch with ease. I can´t see any other reason than cost that has driven that change.
I only use the Maginifying glass to do macro close ups with my phone camera and the old one is long enough to reach the lense, at least on iphone and you get higher magification. Go for the old one if you can.
