Well in my post I never mentioned stripping wire as an issue, I only referred to cutting wire.

Fair enough, so I will clarify that have no issues stripping or cutting.

Spirits are terrible at stranded electrical wire. Both of mine chew it rather than cut. And it has been like that since day one. If I need to cut stranded wire with it, I use the scissors. ;)

@Ifeexpert,
Hello, I had a similar conundrum. Should I, shouldn't I? But fate intervened when one was posted locally at a reasonable price. I said to myself "It's on the list" (I have a mental list of tools I'd like to try) price was fair and it was within a 30 minute commute. So why not? I have to say I have NOT regretted it, and see why others have praised it. Fit and finish and polish far exceed anything I've had the fortune to handle.

The guy tried selling me a Wave for the same price, but after handling them side by side it was a no brainier which to purchase.

It's not without fault; nothing is infallible and I could list it's shortcomings if interested, but definitely a wonderful medium to light heavy duty tool. For heavy duty work I'd go with a Swisstool, Surge, or Supertool. Handled a Swisstool and was as impressed with it's quality as well. Victorinox does it right; just outstanding. (may have to pick up a Swisstool)

Here's a pick for thee ol'salivary glands to get juicing.

Here's my Spirit topic. http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,63006.0.html There are more pics other Mto'ers posted and maybe some info.

Spirits are terrible at stranded electrical wire. Both of mine chew it rather than cut. And it has been like that since day one. If I need to cut stranded wire with it, I use the scissors. ;)

The reason it struggles on fine stranded wire, is the same reason it excels at thicker solid wire (including harder wire). The passing faces are set back slightly into the plier head so there is a slight gap between the blades rather than a true scissor action. This means that if the cutters bruise (deform) slightly on harder materials, they will still continue to cut without catching/binding. I think the scissors make up for this on individual small-ish gauge wire, so the tool is probably only found lacking when cutting such as a three core flex.

One of those "horses for courses" things I suppose. Generally I'm more likely to need to cut gardening wire or binding wire rather than do electrical work, so for me personally it's no real obstacle. For people doing wiring jobs, I can see it being more frustrating though. When I was working on the boat I found that stranded wire was the nemesis of many multitools, and that was a job I usually did with dedicated tools to avoid frustration and upsetting the other boatyard tennants with my tantrums and profanities  :P

:D I'm joking, of course.
LOL!
Don't worry Metsfan, I don't like the Spirit or Swisstool either. Besides, the stoning only hurts the first few times then you get uses to it. :)

I never liked the swisstool or the spirit because of the wire cutting section on the plier head.  It find it to be way too small to get any real wire cutting job done.  Anything over 14awg will give you a problem and the cuts will not be clean, you may find youself regripping a few times to cut 12awg and thicker, at least that's been my experience anyway.
That's the only thing I don't like about them. Put bigger cutters on them, and they'd be the cats ass!!

I owned one; it was awesome; it gets a "yay" from me... The fit and finish on the tool, the individual locks on each tool, the beautiful "snikt" sound when you'd open each one... Beautiful. It had a great weight to it as well; just a solid solid tool.
Only reason I got rid of mine was because I needed some $$$ and it was the tool I used the least because it was so nice lol!

I have , and enjoy both Spirits ( and Swisstools for that matter). It depends on what l'm doing .

Both are pretty cool , the Spirit has one of the highest tool densities in the universe . All the implements work well .

If I could only have one Plier based tool , it would be he Spirit.

I've got the Spirit and the lager swisstool, the swisstool never gets carried. I just find it too clumbersome (bear in mind I normally EDC a Surge).

The Spirit for me has the right mix of tools, apart from the awful scissors, the 'butter' blade is more than capable as I will always be carrying another knife on me. The cutters have never bothered me so much.

The fit and finish is about perfect and it's damn pretty to look at and play with
