knifeless rebar or fuse?
on: February 14, 2016, 02:10:55 AM
Hi all, fairly new here so I don't know all that much...
But I'm thinking of getting a knifeless LM as an EDC and want to know is it worth getting a knifeless fuse or waiting for a knifeless rebar to be released?

the Knifeless Fuse is discontinued, and fairly rare. The two are basically the same size (I think the Rebar is slightly thinner), and have extremly simlar toolsets. The Rebar has all the same tools as the Fuse, but also  has a saw, an awl, and replacable wirecutters.

The Fuse is technically TSA compliant (dosent mean a TSA agent wont try to take it anyhow), the Rebar is not. If you can find them both available at the same price, Rebar all the way. If you can thave the saw and awl because reasons.... good luck hunting for a Knifeless Fuse. You'll need it.

Id just like to point out that Gerber makes a bladeless variant of the MP600 that is worth a look as well.

Or, you can buy any MT that you like, and remove the blade.  Cut it off with a Dremel, and make your own knifeless MT.  SOG MTs are user-serviceable, making it easy to remove the blade.  Good luck.

I stumbled upon a small camping store which still has a few new fuse's in stock which is what made me ask.
Will  have to check out the Gerber and SOG slternatives too. And it is a good point that almost any multi-tool can be modded so that's a solid option too.

Decided to go for the fuse.
Gerber mp600 is great but a bit too long and i wont probably need the saw or awl of a rebar - since otherwise they're very similar tool sets.
Tool stamped 2012 so it's certainly been waiting around for a while! But came with a leather case instead of nylon which is nice but probably wont use it much.

Wow, that was a good find.

+1!

I've been carrying my modded bladeless Fuse for a long time now, and, while it may not be a popular opinion,I rate the Fuse much more highly than the Rebar. I've modded a Rebar to be truly bladeless, but it isn't as good as the Fuse.

Give the MP600 a try. It's a genuinely good tool!
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

Good choice on the Fuse  :tu:

I much prefer it to the Rebar which I have tried twice (as standard, and modded to knifeless). The Rebar packs in a bit more function, but is less comfortable in use, and the tools didn't inspire as much confidence in me as the Fuse tools.

The MP600 is a good tool, but if you feel I may be a little large, the MP400 mods quite nicely to knifeless too. Me, Kirky, Gareth, and JerseyDevil have all done that mod

Thanks all!
I definitely do count it as a rare find (esp. new)
Having a completely blade and saw less edc is pretty useful for me and not having to mod an existing tool is great, however I do like to tinker and will probably have a go and modding some multi-tools in the future.
As a more at home multi-tool, the mp600 would be very useful I reckon, and one I will probably keep an eye on for later down the track!

As an additional side note to this, I noticed the Aussie Leatherman site still features the knifeless fuse as limited stock avaliable.
Useful for those in Aus!
Though site page is a little broken and doesn't list anything about it...

Hello
There is one for sale here if you are still interested. Let me know.  Cheaper than the Knifeless Rebar.
