Just one thought on the article. As you probably already know I hate the Tread and I hate the story behind it. In this article he tells the story again (blah) and adds that the Tread was made as a tool as to be "accepted" and not scare people in public. Not those exact words, but that is what he says in the article. Anyways as some of you may know as well I could care less if anyone "accepts" my tool choice or blade choice. Just makes me hate the Tread and the story behind it a little bit more.

I'm not hating on anyone who likes or owns the Tread. Its just a loser all the way around in my book.

The Tread is just awful....really.  I'm curious why he never mentions a bladeless version of something like the Rebar series.  Clearly the TSA, foreign governments, and apparently Disneyland security have issues with tools being considered weapons.  Why not a quality bladeless multitool so you can "be prepared"?  Wow.....

And that's the issue - right there. Expect more products like Signal and Tread on horizon, soon.   >:(

I just hope the new Wave is conceptualised inside LM company boundaries, by true tool makers and design engineers and not the business spin-doctors. For everyone's sake.  :(

Leatherman is a small company. It's a healthy sized niche product. They do revenues from 80 to 150 million a year. Apple the world's largest company can sell anywhere from 50 to 70 million iPhones in a quarter. Of course Leatherman is going to try to develop products that are more mainstream but I don't see how the tread is a step in that direction.

I just thought it was funny that he mentioned SOG and Victorinox as the competition, and not a word about Gerber
If I can help, let me know

From the first article, I see Mr. Ben Rivera is responsibly for many popular classic in LM tools.  I just hope he would help to look into how to improve the new Wave with solid ideas.  I remembered first time seeing and holding a Wave in hand, after owning a PST for a long while, I could totally appreciate all the changes made and the improvements.

I do know how well the FreeRangePDX would work, and I wish them the best of luck.  But for something classic like Wave, please do take good care and not alter it too wildly.

According to this article he is edcing a modified Wave with replaceable wire cutters, so the new Wave is probably coming.

It seems like the Tread is more of a shock factor product,  minimal functional, too expensive, and kinda too flashy in my opinion. Yoooohooo look at me i have tools as a watch band, and paid more than two useable tools, but dont assume that i can unscrew anything with the little nubs.
Take the guy from sharktank as a great example.

Interesting enough also note that most of his carry items are modded.  ::)  ::)  ::)  just an observation. I wonder if leatherman would be willing to take a page from sog and start offering custom multis to order?
