Cleaning discoloring of '59 soldier
on: November 07, 2015, 11:22:08 PM
So I got this pretty nice '59 soldier. It has some slight blackening of the scales.
Does anyone know if this can be cleaned up?

Not really decided what to do with it yet, but if I'd like to carry it I would like to make sure it does not get worse.
Does anyone know if I can do something to prevent this from getting worse?
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Disclaimer:  I have no idea what I'm talking about.

If it were mine, I might try a very small amount of toothpaste and/or Dawn applied with an old toothbrush.  Very gently just to see how it goes.  I guess it may depend on what the darkening actually is.

Same discliamer as above. It looks like it might be bleeding through from the back are there rivets under the scale in those spots ?

@Steve, that was my first thought too, but there is nothing on the inside

@powernoodle: Great idea, will try that.

You could also try baking soda mixed into a paste with a toothbrush.
