While the chisel did come out in 1986 with the introduction of the SwissChamp, most of the smaller knives (MC, Ranger, Champion) don't seem to get it until 1987 or later. 1986 is an interesting transition year that can usually be identified by the combo of a small "v" stamp + awl with sewing eye (91mm only). With the exception of the SwissChamp, every 1986 knife I've seen that would later get the chisel is still chisel-free in 1986. I have a Champion, Ranger and MC all like this. Interestingly, these models DO get the new fine screwdriver that was also introduced with the SwissChamp. So they end up being kind of a one-year transition model.

So what about this one JB, a 90-91 transitional model? (added crummy pics)
Quote from: SAK Guy on November 24, 2015, 02:04:54 AMSo what about this one JB, a 90-91 transitional model? (added crummy pics)Hard to tell from the pictures. My first impression is that it's a 93-98 model with riveted scissors and the 45 degree crosshatch grind on the metal file, but I can't really see either feature very well in the pictures. You take this from your flip phone?
SG, I've been having a very rough day, terribly depressed, but when I saw that pile of SAKs it brought a smile to my face. Thank you for that. I always enjoy the goodies you share on here as we have similar taste it would seem.cheers

Now that many use a smartphone for taking pictures, it's always interesting to find out who uses what and how much work goes into editing the damn things.Good on you...you always include pictures!

Let's just say that my 40+ years in photography has prepared me for the equipment I'm using now. When I'm having a bad health day, my pix def show it. I do need a camera upgrade (and I have been saying that for 3 years).
