I've been able to handle all 3, and the finish seems very durable.  It's a matte-finish, I'm not sure of the coating exactly, but it seem very good.  The blue really pops, I'll be getting one for sure.

So is this anodized? Powder coated? Enamel paint? Cerakote?

I'm keen on the blue but hoping it will be durable. Don't mind the way anodizing wears (see my avatar) but hope it's a tough finish

I was also curious so I asked LM, this was their reply:

Thank you for contacting Leatherman Tool Group, Inc.

We use a specialized paint designed to be used with stainless steel.

It is tested rigorously before we actually use it with things such as scratch and adhesive testing.

While it is not a permanent coating for the tool, it should last for a long time, as long as there is no abuse to the tool.

An example of abuse would be using the tool as a hammer, or dropping it on the ground.

Some of our older Skeletools' did have that issue, but ultimately we hope the issue has been resolved indefinitely.

I'd like to see some pics of one that's been carried to see how the paint actually holds up.

From that response I do not have high hopes for the coloring.

You mean like this one? Present for my dad.
I have a Leatherman surge, rebar, wave, and a super tool 300. I can also solve 3x3x3, 2x2x2, and 2x2x4 rubix cubes.

Yeah! What a great gift, how's your dad liking it?

Thanks for the picture, my searches weren't coming up with much other than a few advertisement pictures. :salute:

He is loving it. When he opened it he started crying cause he was so happy and he is enjoying the pocket clip a lot with it. The coating is alot like the black oxide in texture but doesn't rub off on your hands.

Nice :tu:.  Always a good feeling to give a gift that is meaningful and truly enjoyed.

Yeah, the pocket clip works great with the Wave for sure.
